LOL, as Dennis Leary would say "It's the 13th berkeleying step". Yah, it messes me up too. Claritin quick dissolve works well for me, without the side effects.
Tell me about it, it's typically the only thing that works for me when my allergies flare up..........I've been in a haze the last 3 days because of it.

You mean except for that pesky side effect of a potential stroke.
They used to have that warning when it was prescription strength, and I had 2 strokes using it, but somehow they removed it on the OTC version.
I have to watch that stuff. While I appear pretty placid.. anything non-drowsy will keep me up 24 hours. The regular stuff didn't do a thing to me
I used to suffer through the background checks and cavity searches required to buy real pseudoephedrine in MO (we're #1! ...in meth) until I discovered Zyrtec. The clouds parted, a ray of sunlight fell from the heavens and the angels sang harmony. And then I discovered generic Walgreens brand Zyrtec, and got a year's supply for about $45.
Nowadays I only take Benadryl chased with a big slug of bourbon when I need to go to sleep early.

Thanks, I never knew that. My wife popped Claritn like PEZ for a while before her stroke and no one mentioned she shouldn't be taking them now.
Sudafed works for me. Have to ask for the good stuff at pharmacy counters and you have to sign for it (stupid meth-heads ruined it).

It was one of the first questions they asked me, after the 2nd stroke.
And, Joy! Joy!, my doctor MADE ME quit wearing ties. That's my story & I'm stickin' to it!
Zyrtec? It has a side-effect that makes some people have uncontrollable appetites. I gained almost 10 pounds in under 2-weeks on that stuff.
I knew a 100-pound petite girl who housed an entire large, stuffed-crust, meat-lover's pizza in one sitting when she was taking it.
I'm just putting that out there as a warning. If you start taking Zyrtec and feel hungry all the time, switch to Claritin or Allegra.
I take a generic antihistimine called hydroxyzine for chronic itching. First time I took a whole one and could not get fully awake for two days. I got a pill cutter and ahve been taking 1/2 pill about every three days and still makes me groggy on many mornings.
Zyrtec...gods own sweet sweet nectar. I have a skin condition known as dermatographia. A condition where my skin thinks theres an allergen present all the time, even though there is none, so it reacts as such - red, severely itchy welts appear on my skin for no reason after just the lightest scratch or pressure on my skin. It can get pretty bothersome, bordering on painful, and can be agonizing during meetings or at a theater where you need to remain quiet and still.
I pop a Zyrtec, and Im good for about 3 or 4 days. I had been dealing with it for nearly a year before I got diagnosed. It made a night and day difference for me all at once.
I've decided that the only thing that works for me is plain ibuprofen. Nose sprays are an "emergency-only" thing, because it keeps me up at night. I think there's some sort of stimulant in there. Most of the allergy stuff makes me absolutely unable to breathe through my nose.
