I just wanted to thank those who offered us advice and who we got to meet while in Daytona. It was COLD but we were prepared (thanks to input here) and had a fantastic experience.
I brought my ten year old and he had a great time. We averaged about 4 miles of walking per day so during the few hours of rest we got we slept well.
It was great to meet Tom, Chris, WAE, and Flyinlow! The cars under the lights were amazing and the sounds were better than I could hope for.
Lesson learned: I will never pay $85 to park in lot 4 again. It's too far to be worth it IMHO. LOT 1 would likely be worth it.
Finally, when we went to the airport, we ended up sitting near SVG, Nicky Catsburg and Connor Zilisch. Two of them were really friendly and were a pleasure to talk to. Connor in particular is incredibly impressive for such a young guy to have such a substantial racing resume. He speaks with a maturity that belies his age.
If anybody is considering the trip, do it! I used Costco travel for the hotel and rental car and both were fabulous and at a great price. We flew Avelo and they get high marks too (hard to argue with $49 nonstop flights!).
I'm here to help if anybody wants info on going next year. If you do, we will see you there!
