I dunno. "Sexual servitude". That's heavy stuff. Immigration angle. Lots of intersectionality to go around on this one. At the least he'll have a reduced front office role. Sex trafficking is a major focus for law enforcement every single Superbowl. This isn't some diploma mill/J2 visa stuff. There's nothing click bait about exploitation. indecision

So, he was trafficking women for sex? WHERE did you get that?!

Being caught as a John is not exactly a major crime. I don’t see any reason to believe he had anything to do with the operation of the business or any knowledge of the origin of the women.

This looks like something people want to be more than it is...

Right back at you.  Where did I accuse him of that?  Please don't tell me you're on the side of the 'John' here.  Unless he's a naif so called sex-work is a major focus for LEOs during the Superbowl which he's been to what 10 as an owner?  Given some of the prices mentioned I wonder why he couldn't at least have gone the high priced route or for goodness sake got himself a bloody girlfriend.  Used to be the price of admission was marriage now it's $59/79.  If that doesn't suggest exploitation then I don't know what to say.

Now that I think about if Epstein can walk for what he did then there's nothing to see here.  indecision

We seem to hold Smokey Unick in high regard.

Yeah, but nobody is saying that Smokey was the greatest of all time.

He's held in high regard by so many because the sport he participated in was literally started by criminal bootleggers and moonshiners. That attitude of lawlessness, rebellion and skirting rules is kind of the bedrock of NASCAR, so Smokey is celebrated.

Can you really be The GOAT with as many scandals and high profile cheating investigations as he's had? He's the ultimate "win at any cost, whatever it takes" guy. It doesn't matter how many wins, records, or rings he gets; his record will always be tainted gray, just like the area of the rule book that he's fond of living in.

While I love giving them a hard time (Belicheat and the Cheatriots,) do you really think the stuff they were caught doing was anything that hasn’t been done by other teams?

He’s the best because, among other things, he doesn’t take E36 M3 from the players, and makes it clear from day one that no player’s role is any more important than another’s.

The issue is that his handjob didn't come a from cruelty free, free range, cage free source. His actions, and those of others, are exactly what drives abduction, human trafficking of young adults and children in the sex trade.

That would make sense except that arresting all those drug users have done an amazingly wonderful job of eliminating all of the drug dealers.

I would never assert that those arrests have made any significant difference in demand.  Are you saying I'm wrong?  Remove the drug user.  Where's the demand?  I'm not saying that it's a matter for law enforcement.  It's a matter for an ethical people to be made aware of their world, and the consequences that their actions have on others.

Or, ya know, we could just legalize the world's oldest profession, mandating health and wellness checkups like the porn industry, thus eliminating the need for a black market source and most of the bad that comes with it. Kinda like we did with alcohol prohibition, and like how we're starting to treat pot, when the states aren't dumb enough to tack on an extra $50/ounce "freedom tax".

Honest questions:

1) Why is sex trafficking attached to the Superbowl? Is there some correlation between big sporting events and trafficking?

2) Is there less trafficking in countries with legalized prostitution?

aircooled
aircooled MegaDork

There is a huge amount of prostitution surrounding the event (and many other large events).  Too large of a demand for prostitution and not enough supply encourages the use of "more aggressive" means of supplying prostitutes, thus sex slavery.

Except the direct reason these black markets pop up in the first place is because of attempts of governments to make things illegal. Booze, drugs, weapons, prostitutes, everything is fine and dandy right up until you start forcing your morality on other people. And forcing morality always leads to more laws that do nothing but breed new problems.

People have been getting high and paying for sex for as long as we've known how to do those things. You're not going to remove the user no matter how hard you try.

I would suspect though, even if you made prostitution legal, you might still have a supply problem.  I suspect it’s not a profession that would appeal to many these days. The worry is that it would become (and currently is) a job of desperation, that can do long term psychological damage to those who do not have the appropriate psychological fortitude.
