When I got my powder coat kit I decided to coat some of my sons cars that were dinged up cuz you know, powder coat.
Well, I've gone from noticing a chipped up car and decided to coat that, to looking for chipped up cars to coat, and now to buying cars that I think would look cool in another color. I've made it a point to NOT look in the classifieds section to see if Javelin is selling any more cars haha.
Anyway, I saw this car.

Yeah, that's cool and all, but it really needed something else. This time I decided to try two colors. It was not easy. Not because doing two colors is inherently difficult, but because it was VERY hard to mask such a small area with some pretty sharp curves.

Well, I'm not going to my my millions like this, but hey, it's cool enough for me. There's one more car I'm going to do a two-tone color scheme, but it'll be much easier.

Cool! What's the process for 2 colors, one color, bake, then second color and bake again?

Yeah. From what I've read the color your coating over isn't much of an issue because powder is thicker than a coat of paint or two, but I'm not really sure. I have some large brackets, steel and aluminum so I'll have to try it again just to get the process right. That red stripe was really, really hard. It wasn't raised, just had a slight depression alongside it so getting the tape to hug that close was tough.

Looks good. Maybe a little tab of silver to better define the head lights?

Thanks. I don't have silver or I think I'd have tried. The thing with powder coating is, a little dab is a pain in the butt since you have to mask everything off except that little area since you need the static charge to get the powder to stick evenly. I saw a guy with an artist's brush painting it on. I'll have to try that.
