When I was in college 40 years ago I smoked a pipe. The local tobacconist carried "Mayfair" which I liked. I don't know if it was the type of tobacco or the brand of tobacco--I think it was the former. I did an internet search but came up empty. Any ideas or suggestions for pipe tobacco?

My local tobacconist has a house blend called "Balkan Express" that I love.
It's mostly Turkish tobacco, they recommended it when I told them I like Bolivar cigars.

Go to a local shop. See what you like the smell of. Try small amounts of different varieties.
I'm partial to Pebblecut, which is a strait Virginia leaf. Relatively mild. No extra flavorings.
My dad and grandfather smoked a lot of cigars and pipes. My grandmother would buy them tobacco when they had a store near her job off State Street in Chicago.
This place had the best smell. I know we are helping people quit smoking but when I smell a good cigar 1000 memories of my dad comes back to me.
