Thanks to everybody who chimed in on our roadtrip.
Day 1:
Parked in Boston Common and walked the Freedom Trail. The brutalist City Hall is incredible! Made it as far as the Constitution and headed back. Overall Boston really surprised us. The roads and traffic are way better than we'd been lead to believe and everybody we talked to were super friendly. We grabbed a beer at Trillium and made it to Newport for sunset. Got a peak at Jay Leno's house and walked along the mansions. I'll have to bring my wife back for and do that again!
Day 2:
Wife wanted to see us on the trip in her hometown, Lancaster, PA. We drove up to the Reading Pagoda and back down the Duryea Hillclimb. Down is much easier than up, I'm sure. Stopped in McGinty Motors for a pretty eclectic mix of survivors and restorations for sale. I really wanted to go out to Governor Dick in Mt Gretna to climb the tower but it started to thunder as we approached and I don't want to be on a tower during a thunderstorm. Dinner and a pint at Quips Pub.
Day 3:
Out to Ohiopyle. Funny that we drove right by Berkely Springs, WV where I sold my BMW last year. Beautiful drive out through MD/WV/PA in the spring. If you're into architecture Falling Water is worth the visit. It was nearing the end of renovations(mostly fixing leaks) which somehow made it cooler. Also stopped to see our friend in Hagerstown who was prepping his S124 300TE for a track day the following Saturday.
Day 4:
Luray Caverns and the great Stalacpipe Organ. Immense cave and a pretty neat story about the organ. Honestly, the organ was kinda disappointing. It would have been cooler if the demonstration song was something I recognized. They also have a car museum which we preemtively judged by it's cover, "hur dur, what year mustang are they going to have?" In actuality the museum is all prewar and super cool. They have a Metz paper drive!
Day 5:
VA to SC. We trucked from our night stop in Richmond to Charlotte to get to Carrowinds. Coming down I-85 we saw a ton of cars heading back north, so I'm guessing it was people leaving a car show. Carrowinds is theoretically $40 which is cheap enough we we'd go for the final 5 hours of operations. We get there and find that's an online only price and you can't buy online tickets day of. Oh well, I'm not paying $85 for what is now 4.5 hours.
Day 6:
Sparklecity! Chilled for a day at my copilot's house. The best way to relax on a Sunday, we rewired two of his old garages. Both of which his great grand uncle built in the 1920s, one of which still has(non funcitonal) knob and post wiring.
Day 7:
Spartanburg to Buxton. Driving through Charlotte rushhour sucks. In the rain on a Monday morning sucks worse. Warm and wet and I don't have AC so I was running the heat on the windshield to keep it clear. Then the wind picked up which makes the old window seals really noisy. The only rough day of the trip was getting back home.
