Torn ligament and labrum in shoulder. Had the process done this morning. Should be good to go in less than a month. Did not want to go surgery even though it would have been covered by my insurance and this wasn't. Also wasn't interested in the 6 to 12 month recovery associated with surgery. Fingers crossed. Challenge van will be waiting a few weeks now.
Anyone else have this done?
never heard of it.. what is it supposed to do?
Uses your own platelets to create a healing environment to repair the problems. Instead of cutting things up and tying them off. This helps fix the underlying problem and heal the damaged parts. Beyond this is stem cell injection but doctor didn't think my injury warranted that.
First I've heard of it, so I hit up PubMed and Google Scholar. None of the randomized controlled trials have shown any difference between platelet rich plasma injection and the injection of a saline solution. Here's the most recent study.
But hopefully you won't need surgery, can't blame you for trying to avoid it.
In my circle of friends who have had it done they are glad they did. Not a scientific study at all, but I trust them. Fingers crossed I'll be fine and healed.

I had surgery last December for a torn rotator cuff. Caused from a fall. Had an implant from a cadaver to take care of things. Very good doctor. I still have occasional discomfort, but basically OK. Old age is a bitch. Biggest problem I have is balance. I have fallen several times. No fun. No complaints at all about the doctor or the procedures. Just wish I was 30 again. My surgery was done by laparoscopy, so a very small scar, but that is of no consequence to me. Hey, chicks dig scars, no?

A co-worker hurt her ankle, waited a bit too long to seek treatment, at which point nothing seemed to work. After several months, her doc suggested platelet injection, and it worked very well. She did say the injection hurt like hell and took a few days to be effective.
Day 2. Not much pain, but I'm not moving it much. In a sling. Muscles are tight. Bicep is sore as it was the biceps tendon that was bad on the front side. Need to wait three more days before I ditch the sling. So far so good.
