I'm currently staying in a house with a shower that doesn't get very hot. (Sinks and other shows get very hot).
It's an American Standard unit. I found some videos online of other AS but they don't look the same. Any ideas on how to adjust the temperature on this thing?

That white sleeve around the valve should slide right off and you should be able to rotate it a couple degrees counter clockwise and slide it back on. Almost all the different valve styles have a nearly identical mechanism for allowing a max hot.
of course, it may be all the way hot and a bad valve can cause the same problem.
Hmmm, thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not having any luck sliding it off with a pick. I can't tell for sure but it looks like it's maybe held in place on the side with a screw or something.

Admittedly I'm not familiar with that style valve. Maybe see if there's an install instruction video? Likely such instructions would mention the hot water limited.
Yeah that's a good idea, trying to find an install video. Here's another view of what's holding the white piece of plastic on. I can actually see all the way through it!

Thinking out loud, you don't think this has anything to do with the adjustment? I had already removed this black plastic piece in the pictures above, but now I'm wondering if it is actually where one can do the adjustment. I can place it after different numbers (0 in the picture below) Although...I can't see how it's would impact how far I can turn the lever to hot.
Ninja edit: correction, didn't realize it at first, but it does stop the lever from moving more! Trouble is, it was set at zero (hottest) so I'll have to actually remove it completely to get more rotation toward Hot. Do you think it's okay to do away with the ring completely?

I generally follow the thinking that if the engineers put it there, there's likely a reason, and it should probably stay. Sometimes a part serves two purposes too. Maybe aside from stopping you burning yourself, maybe it's a bushing and keeps the slop out of the handle. Maybe I'm overthinking it.
If you can't find an install video, see if you can find a local commercial supplier, the guy your plumber would buy from, and ask someone there. Most of the folks behind the counter are usually pretty helpful.
I'm just guessing here, because I am nowhere close to an actual plumber, but can the black ring with the three screws be clocked to a different position? If so, that would put the max hot "0" in a different spot relative to the travel of the lever, and maybe that would take you, for example, from 20-50 hot to 40-70 hot?
Same theory as when you have a six point socket and a square drive And you can't get the breaker bar handle to the right position. You take the socket off and rotated 90°, and that puts the handle in a different position because there's only 60° between points on the socket.
Is your hot water heater set to full tilt boogie?
Cant you just up the temperature on the water heater thermostat? I would just do that and be done with it.
Thank you all for the responses! I think I've got it sorted.
To the above questions: Water is already max hot on the water heater.
@barefootskater500, I agree with you on the "engineers put it there for a reason" line of thinking. I think I'm going to try it with out that piece and see if I notice any problems.
@angrycorvair, yeah I had the same thought. I began to back those three screws out and a LOT of water started to come out (despite water valve being shut off) I got nervous and screwed them back in. The other potential problem is if I did that, then everything is rotated approximately 30 degrees and I'm not sure what the impact will be.
At this point, just removing that ring is much easier and allows that white piece with the tabs pictured above to turn that extra 10 degrees for more hot water.
So far it's working great! The water is hot, handle is secure, and no problems without the piece.
