1997 BMW 740i (E38 Series) Black for sale - $1400 (Grayson, GA)
CL Seller said: 1997 BMW 740i (E38 Series) Black for sale - $1400 (Grayson, GA) Date: 2011-12-14, 7:29AM EST Reply to: sale-rhqtd-2752423883@craigslist.org We have a 1997 BMW 740i (e38 Series) Black for sale. Please note that before you read the rest of the ad, the engine is blown and we can't afford to replace it. This car is not running and will need to be towed. The body is in good shape and lots of interior work completed. We have replaced many parts on this car. This includes new tires, half an engine block (Probably why it blew up), new dashboard, water pump, ball joints, new battery, new brakes, etc... The car has close to 200,000 miles on it with a full title. May be good for parts or you can get it running. Will not answer any questions already answered in this ad. (I love it when they put this . . followed by) $1,400 or B/O (we are really looking to sell, please let us know offers). Please call (770) 979-2333 to see it. No scammers. (What is there to scam? You get cash, I get a blown up luxo barge)

Seems that bimmer needs to meet my friend Ellis Juan.
The first three words of the title of the email I received in response to my truck ad (normal, auto-generated by CL): "1991 Ford F250"
The entire text of the email from a theoretical prospective buyer:
"is this the Guy with the 91 Ford?"
This is either one of those spam-harvesting responses I've heard so much about, or somebody so stupid that I don't want to sell him the truck because he'll drool on me during the paperwork.
For all you guitar players, you can't pass this up:

Well here is a new car brand, This guy is selling a Shevi Aveo. I guess walking out to the car to make sure you spelled the car name right.
Here is what he has to say about the car "very nice care, low on gas, automatic, very good condition," I am not sure he knows that you can fill up the car so it won't be low on gas.....maybe I should call to let him know.

While a specific ad made me write this post, this is something that I see quite a bit.
I hate it when you find a car on Craigslist that seems like something you might be interested in, and then you look at the pictures and see it has huge chrome rims on it. That's strike one. I've gotten it into my head after looking at one or two of these cars that any car with big chrome rims on it probably has a tonne of deferred maintenance. They had to pay for those rims somehow.
It is also inevitable that if I am not immediately scared away by the rims, I will read the ad and find it states something like: KBB value in good condition is 3500, and that is without the rims, which are worth $2000 new.
I don't care about your chrome rims. If you've got some BBS rims on there or something, alright, maybe I'm interested in them, as long as they are not chrome. I hate chrome rims.
But I'm not looking to buy right now, I'm just trolling the ads in case something remarkable shows up. You know, like almost every single one of us does.
Anyhow, I'm reading this ad, and it looks like they have thrown a lot of (cheap) parts at this car, but it still has some woes. Ok. That happens. I get it. You're broke, but you're trying to keep your car going. I've been there.
Then I saw this picture:
I did a double take. A skull shifter?

Don't think it is worth the asking price if it had 15k worth of gold sitting in the seat.
Not extremely delusional but "usual rust" and turning down offers of $1000? I would offer $500 at the most for this thing.

seller said: After 26 years, my 72 year-old mom is finally ready to sell her Toyota MR2. She has owned the car since purchasing it new in Lancaster at Gribble Toyota in 1986. The car has the usual rust on the rear quarters and the paint is faded, but the car runs and drives pretty well. It has 126K on it, a/c, 5 speed and decent tires. The car does not have power options (windows, seats], etc..), but the interior is in pretty good condition. My mom has finally moved on to the grandma car (a Buick, of course) and is ready to sell. Please do not low-ball on the price. We have had a few jokers offer $1000.00 and even less, and that simply will not do. Give a call with any questions. 740-407-4033
