Here is a good one:

74 VW Bug - $2000 (Cartersville Ga.)

Hi, 74 bug project for sale or trade. I cut 5 inches out of the A and B pillers. And then welded on a Astro roof. Motor runs good but the person I got it from put on a new carb and it doesn't seem to want to idle. I ran it back from Dalton at 70 and 75 mph. Bug rolls good. The brakes, tranny and electics work s should. The channels and floor look good to me. Front seats need to be covered but the foam is in great shape. The rear seat is in good shape. Maybe ya hate the top...take it off and put a differn't bug body on it. Cut it up make a nice three wheeler. I have $2800 into it.$2000 or offer. Would trade for a dirt bike big enough to haul my 200 pound frame around. Let me know what ya have. Cash and things that go bang....who knows. Shoot me a e mail with photo's or just let me know what ya have., Thanks Greg http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/3271851122.html

Currently runs and drives. 4 Cylinder motor put in last year. I just installed a new radiator and we messed it up so it ran hot and suddenly the oil is milky. Please don't come, look at the oil and say you don't want it. This waste my time.

Engine light is NOT on. Good transmission. Great driving. Could use some fresh paint, fuse for horn and the tires are a little worn. I have all the original rims so you arn't stuck with those ugly black standard rims. AC works but needs a new compressor. Wonderful on gas. Current registration. A little over 200K. Interior needs vacuuming

I would be willing to talk about $200 and a 150cc+ moped scooter. This car will be sold on a first come first serve basis. I will not tolerate anymore no call / no shows

Manuel does a lot of the transmissions around here, too, apparently. I see a lot of Manuel transmissions show up on CL.

Hell man, that 4x2 Offy manifold is worth at least $500 and even if every one of his engines is scrap, 1600Lbs is a lot of scrap money. That's a screaming deal. (Forwarded to Dad...)

I'm not sure shameless self promotion qualifies it as "delusional."

However, I will try to make up for your post with the following: http://martinsburg.craigslist.org/cto/3461694613.html (motor has prombles has a reicever)

http://westmd.craigslist.org/cto/3390118079.html i know what these trucks go for,a painted and clean condition i seen these trucks go between 8-10k,a buddy of mine hade one and said mine is worth 5k the way it is.so im only asking 1,500 MUST GO ASAP rrriiiggghhht (He was asking $5k about 5 months ago, then $3k for several months, this thing has been on there for at least half a year). He also original advertised it as 100% rust free, although I'm guessing he gave up on that after the pictures show it covered in at least surface rust. Also never heard anyone brag that you could be assured of quality as the truck was 'from kansas.' lol Having said all that, at $1500 its a lot closer to what its worth and I kinda like the patina.
And finally, a bently someone donated that they want $12,000 for, or "may part out." http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/cto/3443315576.html

Hope the new owner likes having his car seized by the feds!

No way shape or form is that car here legally. Customs could seize it. New owner would have no recourse other than suing the PO.

yeah, but very low chance of that happening. never happened to all the motorex cars despite all the posturing. And in another few years will be a moot point as R32's will all be 25 years old.

Thats a R33.

Its getting more and more likely, a rash of them have been seized out west. In truth they are smuggled into the country and it will always be hanging over their head that it could be taken.

The Motorex cars are their own deal, essentially they lied to the govt and the govt decided to let them (the cars) slide because the customers thought they were doing the right thing. Motorex DID have a way to make them legal, but didnt actually bother to do the (expensive) conversions to the cars. At least that is my understanding.

andrave
andrave HalfDork

Motorex only did obtained approval for (I believe) the R33 using a list of approved modifications. They then filed paperwork basically claiming the R32 and R34 were the same car, thus avoiding having to smog or crash test any new ones. Then it later turned out they weren't always doing all the things on the list even on the R33's.

Cars 25 years old and older are easier to import, so in a few years I expect enthusiasts will try to start importing R32's. Apparently canada has a similar rule, but for 15 year old cars, and I've actually seen some pretty badass japanese imports on forums from the great white north (sunni GTi-R, GTR's, etc).

I don't know why I thought the one in the ad was an R32. I guess I wasn't paying that much attention.

You are technically right that it probably could be seized by the government, however, given that this guy actually went to the trouble of getting it a title (which seems easier in VA than in other states, as I've seen a few others "titled" in VA), it just doesn't seem all that likely to me. I've not heard of any being seized and crushed out west though, do you have any more info on that?

Interesting, I found an article about the feds seizing 3 skylnies in california for being daily driven but registered as exempt, and I found an article about the state of wisconsin seizing 2 skylines and crushing them (one of them was the bigbird skyline featured in SCC years ago and also in the movie fast and furious). http://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c55-amg-w203/449608-ot-2-gt-rs-crushed.html heartbreaking...

Theres more out there.

Keep in mind that state and federal are two entirely seperate entities in regards to him titling it. All it takes is someone in the chain in a state not quite knowing what they are doing and they have a title.

Heres the thing though, it has to be done through an RI and have the proper modifications (glass, lights, OBD, etc).

No mention of that means, probably illegal

andrave

the ebay article pretty much says it all, if it hasn't been done by that "JT technologies" company that did the original testing, then it can't be legal, because they aren't sharing their modifications with anyone else, motorex doesn't exist anymore and never shared their modifications, and no one else has ever got approval to do it any other way. Getting a JDM car to pass OBD-2 sounds tricky enough on its own. I'm guessing adding crash beams and possibly door glass (though how different is japanese door glass) is probably not the hardest part of getting through all the legal hoops.

at any rate, I think its now safe to say, "Don't buy $35k skylines off craigslist just because they have state issued titles because the state or the feds could come after them at any time." I also think its safe to say "If you want an R32 you can legally import one in a few years so just wait, because if you buy one now, the fact that it will be legal to import in a few years won't keep yours from being seized at that point in time. If you want an R33 you will be waiting significantly longer, or paying JT technologies a lot of money to get yours in." and honestly, I'm thinking after obdII (what, 1996?), the feds may change the "25 years and older open import" rule. Who knows, doubtful that many 25 year old cars are worth importing and then driving on public roads often enough to make it a big issue either way. 90% of the high dollar cars are already on the grey market list that can be imported and driven with limited street use.
