To start as matthewmcl said, I am also an Instructor with Project Appleseed, and recently promoted to Shoot Boss as well.
The one thing I would stress, is not to worry about hardware, most rifles are more capable than their operators. Take the time at the event to listen to the instruction and try the methods and techniques, as they've proven themselves out over 250 plus years of history of this country.
Another source that seems to have a selection of available 22lr in stock is Sportsmans Warehouse, although some items do have limits. I know they are primarily a Northwestern US chain, but they are reaching east, as we have two locations here in Michigan.

Congrats on Shoot Boss!
Yes, you are right, most rifles are more cabable than the shooter, just as most cars are more capable than the driver. At the same time, the event is similar to an endurance event, so make sure equipment is something you don't have to fight. If you are comfortable with it, and you can keep it running, it is plenty good. Thanks for making sure that was mentioned.
Just curious, do you have pistolseeds in your area? I have not been to one and I am curious.
I've thought about doing one but I'd have to use my mossberg model us44(b) with peep sights. It's heavy. Bull barrel and a 7-rd magazine. I definitely am not drilling the stock of this 65 year old rifle that has been in the family since 1946.
In reply to bobzilla :
$200 still buys a marlin 60 or ruger 10/22.

One lap, grid life and a wife changing jobs. I'm not getting any of those new things. If i was I'd already have sent PSA $349+tax.

There are many more ways to attach a sling than drilling for sling studs. I am surprised, though, as I thought those had studs.
Anyway, things like this are getting harder to find, but work fine:
You can also make something like that out of paracord, paracord loops with a little piece of tubing work fine on the front, too. If it wiggles too much, wrap it with cohesive tape like you get on your arm after giving blood (no sticky).
Short answer, you have a perfect rifle, truly perfect. Post pics so I know what yours looks like, and if we can't figure out an easy buy solution, I will make a few sets of something that will work, and send you one for testing. Shoot Bosses generally have field expedient fixes in their kit, and I am still growing mine.
How many magazines do you have? You will want at least two, if you can, but you can actually run with a single shot if you can keep a level head.
Here is this magazine, if you can't find anything elsewhere:

The front has a weird boss thing. I guess I didn't remember the rear having it too.
In reply to bobzilla :
I like that stand for your gun. Looks like you've already got peep sights too.
Edit: Just reread your post and you said that already. I'm leaving my mistake for you to make fun of.
In reply to JRGunfighter_John :
I've got three Sportsman's Wearhouses within like 20 mins. I'll check them out for ammo.
In reply to thatsnowinnebago :
We made that specific for this. I think it's too pretty to hide away
In reply to bobzilla :
Perfection, truly perfection. Those weird boss things are quick detach sling swivel mounts. They work with these:

I am trying to find cheaper options. Those work so well many people will be jealous. They are still used today for target work.
This is the last post I can make and still be able to tell my wife, "No, I'm not a dork, see?"
One more thing I wanted to ask before I order parts: some internet people say the Marlin stock is too weak to attach a sling to, and that it'll crack the forend when I take the class. Is this a classic case of forum nonsense or something to actually worry about?
In reply to thatsnowinnebago :
Fairly sure our resident instructor uses a marlin. Fairly sure he knows I use one. Fairly sure he showed me the basics of sling use with a declawed marlin stock. I will of course let him correct me if I'm wrong on any point.
My marlins are magazine fed, and my two with "normal" stocks are plastic with built in mounts. The tube fed guns may get thin under the tube in the wood stocks.
My Gumby Gun is an old aftermarket Mauser stock.
In the meantime, pull the stock and take a look. Anything can be reinforced, but it may not be worth the trouble. You may be able to trim down a blind nut. I think the default front attach on a 60 is a little band that clamps on to the magazine tube. That is not ideal but still should be fine.

See how wrong I was?
Mauser, Marlin, eh, it was a while ago.

I need to get involved in one of these shoots near me.
I will need a semi-auto .22lr first. I do have access to a bolt action .22lr but I understand a semi-auto is recommended.

In reply to matthewmcl :
I did see those little mag tube clamps and they seemed sketch. So I was considering going the blind nut route. I've got a buddy with a drill press and woodworking skillz who would be happy to help out.
In reply to Noddaz :
Semi auto is fewer things to think about, but the bolt gun is likely a nicer trigger. I have seen plenty of good work with a bolt gun. If you are familiar with the bolt gun, take it. I did my first with semi auto because that us what I had. I really want to run a bolt gun the next time I go as a shooter. If you like shooting, and like learning, you are going to want to go more than once. Take the rifle you know the best.
In reply to matthewmcl :
That was what I had heard as well. I just hate loading 7 rounds over and over lol. I guess I could borrow dads mag from his d model. That's the one I learned to shoot rifles with. V rear sight and blade front. Going to the b and the peep and hooded front felt like hopping into a Cadillac after driving there in a Chevy
edit: I actually don't know how to adjust the front sight. I know it is movable but I have no idea.
In reply to bobzilla :
I think all of your adjustment is in the rear sight, at least your rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation. Is the front sight set for changeable inserts? Post a pic of the front.
In reply to matthewmcl :
I was doing some late night reading on it last night. It has the mossberg s-100 rear sight with half MOA adjustments, and apparently the front hood comes off and there are supposed to be different posts(?). I know the issue I had last summer was the front post is visibly off centered in the ring so I adjusted the rear to compensate.
I'll get pics tonight and mess with it a little.
Well, it's officially happening now. Just signed up for a class on Sept 24-25 and ordered sights, a sling, and a shooting mat.
Love when the UPS man brings me gifts.
