Over the past couple years and developing friendships with ahh...certain associates...that even a lot of the three-patch riders fit into the insurance-man-biker stereotype
BUT there a a non-trivial number of the real, hardcore MC 1% still around, and you can't necessarily tell the difference by looking at them. And if you mistake one for the other...whatever happens next will be massively unpleasant.
Also worth noting that even some of the more benign sounding clubs seem have some truly hardcore elements that actively recruit and use the insurance guys as disposable fodder for certain activities.
So...I watch my six and be respectful...just in case.

I have a CC permit. What good would it do if I pulled a gun in a crowd of 150 bikers, half of whom were probably also carrying? That is a certain death sentence.

you didn't almost die... they just wanted to berkeley with you a bit, rattle your cage somewhat... if they were serious, they would have at least taken or smashed your camera and made sure you didn't have a cell phone or other means of recording anything or taking any pics on you before beating you to a pulp..
Nah. If he'd have stood up and started photographing people around the fire, what you describe might well have happened. He was off in the woods, and they gave him the benefit of the doubt.
While I do think Hess is basically right about being photographed by "the man" constantly and not staying with the times, this event was out in the woods. They were expecting to let their hair down and not worry about it. Not really any different than while I've nothing to hide at my home, no you are not entitled to start taking pictures just because I said you could come over for lunch.
The proposed "stand your ground and assert your rights, they'll back down" suggestion from someone, that likely wouldn't have ended well.
