You've captured it exactly.
I've met any number of well respected people in the Industry that are "respected" for the publicity they've generated but were douche bags in person. Bottom line is that they were well respected by the people who didn't really know them.
Rockefeller was well respected, but he earned his money at the expense of people. He then became philanthropic as a PR measure, and it worked. He was one of the original Robber Barons.
It feels as if the BJ charity auctions are publicity stunts more so than a real heart felt need to help people. Say what you will about me, but you don't know me either.
Fortunately I can fast forward thru their segments and just enjoy the parts of the show I like.
I also don't like the time wasted on the Fantasy Bid Mustang car that just keeps popping up over & over again. You don't reckon my ADD has anything to do with that do you?

Which is very much like being disrespected by people who don't really know them.
Which is what YOU are doing.
Carguy, you are beating a dead horse.

...and loosing respect in the process.
The world is full of shiny happy people , if you cut into the underbelly of society you can smell the bile .
I'm not the one doing the beating. I stated my opinions and then you kept it alive. I haven't dwelled on it, only responded to attacks. I think you'll find I kept going back to other aspects of the show on just about every post.

Actually, I only called you exactly what you told me to call you.

They have raised $20 million dollars since 2005 for charity.
Sorry about the bad hair. Glad you enjoyed the DVD.
20 million I can double that in less than a year
Glad to see cars including classics being restomodded, at least they'll be driven and enjoyed instead of being admired like a piece of china in a cabinet.
That 'correct amount of factory over spray' E36 M3 drives me nuts.

They do it wrong (sober) too, there needs to be a study on what BAC you need to maintain to restore a car to 60s American standards.

I don't love Barrett-Jackson. I have not watched an auction for years. I think the last one I watched was when they sold that Oldsmobile Showcar for $3 million.

Another was watching the custom Sonny & Cher Mustangs hit the block like a dead halibut. No amount of hawking from Barris himself were going to get those things off the ground. It was kind of sad to watch.
Ha! All three of those cars are near here now! The Mustangs are in a private museum about two miles from my house and the Olds went to the Gateway museum that's about 90 miles from here.
I watched the 2013 Preview and then watched a few hours (10) of the early days of last year's reruns to get into the mood and back up to speed as to some pricing and types of cars to expect to see so I'm ready for the 13th when they do it all again this year.
I had forgotten how many pick up trucks there were last year. While I drive a PU I found I just don't consider them collectable. To me they are work vehicles.
I'd love to go just to see the rolling museum!

I would much rather watch Mecum.
From meeting Dana the last few years, he comes off as a more down to earth cool person that just loves cars. And seeing some of the stuff he will sell of his own, he has a good taste in vehicles.
The same cannot be said for Reggie Jackson....I do hope I never cross paths with him again.
