What do you guys remember about Reagan? Well I'm betting this is stuff you forgot.
Just imagine how this stuff would play today.

i liked it right up until the last minute and a half or so... that part just seemed like piling on...
Most horrible demon ever.. I'm surprised more Actors/ Actresses aren't politicians. All you have to do is convince people to vote for you... A semi competent actor should be able to do that...
It is a bit sad that is seems like most all politicians these days seem to have almost no sense of humor.
Realistically is probably more of a political strategy since almost any humor would be met with some cry of being offended or some sort of "the country is on the brink, and he his making jokes"
As a note, I am not sure there has ever been a time when the country was not considered to be nearing disaster by some large segment of the population.
Must..not..comment..but..cannot..resist...
Once upon a time, NPR posted up a really silly question on their FB page. "If you could go back in time and tell your 18yr old self something, what would it be?"
I had a beer or three in me at the time, and just casually typed "Move to Europe. They will only get stronger, we will not successfully fight them off."
IIRC, to this day..it's the most 'popular' comment I've ever made over there.
EDIT: I was 18yrs old in 1980.

No, that's a guy named McGuinty. You've probably heard of him, and probably voted for him.
The Reagan stuff was pretty good.
I'm surprised that most of his jokes probably wouldn't have created an outcry from people today. saying he was insensitive. Many were at his own expense.
I just loved the one where he said you aren't a Thomas Jefferson.

and how did you get to a point where you didn't have to eat like that any more?
Reagan did have a sense of humor.. and I did like that it was often self-depreciating. I think too many politicians take themselves far too seriously

Most of those jokes were made at RNC functions, fund raisers and events like the WH Correspondent's Dinner. Such events were rarely covered by news media.
I lived through those times, too. At first, I considered Reagan a cowboy dinosaur and too far to the right for my disposition at the time. But I also lived through the national malaise named Carter and I learned to appreciated the greatness of old Ronnie Raygun. The biggest, long-term mistake he made was in embracing the religious right and propelling them to the national stage.
Reagan had much more than a self-deprecating sense of humour. He also knew how to lead and was willing to make compromises to move ahead. We don't have many politicians like that anymore - starting at the top of the pile.
Reagan also had a tendency to forget stuff or just flat out not know what was going on around him, too..
he was definitely a better man for that job than anyone who's done it since- but that's not really saying much..

What is sad.. he would be considered a moderate today.
He not only had a sense of humour.. but knew how to use it as tool and even a weapon. Even as he poked fun at himself as being "too old" he was able to make his opponite look too young

I voted for a Minority government and will continue from here on out!! Any government (politician), Provincial or Federal that claims to "not be able to do anything without a majority".. Is a liar, just like Harper... And should be humbled old country way!!! Harper could have worked with the other parties to pass legislation. Instead he bamboozled the voting public into thinking his way was the only correct way... That is BullE36 M3..
Seriously... Harper taught me this... He said he needed a Majority to get anything done... I said "bullE36 M3, you just want a dictatorship".. He got his Dictatorship... But next election. Federal, or Provincial. I will have a vote Minority sign on my front lawn... Why should I trust a party that is incapable, of taking my dog outside for a dump at the right time, to have full control of the jurisdiction, where I live..

Tell me more about your "feelings"
In reply to drsmooth:
I hope you feel shame every time you hear about e health, Ornge, or the gas plants on the news.
Minority governments are a waste of time, and dictatorship in Canada? Very funny.
