We had a store near us. Yep, it was insane.
I can't begin to tell you how many cases of Maxell and TDK cassette tapes I bought from those clowns! All gone now, of course!
Since not everyone in the US grew up with access to WPIX or WOR-9 in NY/NJ, The guy on the commercials was Jerry Caroll, a stand-up comic/actor ... this is the real Eddie right here.

When I was in college, there was a sophomore finance major living across the hall from me. He took out a supplemental student loan for $7000 and used all of it to buy Crazy Eddie stock, moments before the whole shebang collapsed in on itself. I remember someone wrote "Crazy Eddie Shares: Take One, They're Free!" over the toilet paper holder in the dorm bathroom.
