Take 5 was the first album I was ever owned. My dad gave me a copy when I was 4 or 5. I still have it.
Dave Brubeck was the MAN. He gigged actively up until a few years ago!
I first heard Time Out in my college Jazz Studies class, and the songs Take 5 and Pick-Up Sticks stood out and really made me take a second look at Jazz on a whole and influenced my drumming style.
RIP indeed.
On a side note:
For some reason, I always think of this when someone mentions Dave Brubeck. There just aren't a lot of old guys named Dave.
Gotta dust this one off when I get home. Very frantic, very nasty-ass cover of Take Five by George Benson. I dig that 70's "Well, the bass was sharp on the whole Superfly album, so let's replicate that" sound. It's better on vinyl. Anyway....
