It's not that I hate Green Day- I don't. I just fail to see how they rank so far ahead of so many genuinely classic groups that revolutionized the the industry before they knew what it was. Green Day.... Billy Joe dyes his hair black, puts on some eyeliner, acts a little sad and suddenly they're the second coming of Christ. This bothers me. I guess I see "punk" differently.

Seen them three times over 2002-2005. One time they sucked, the other two were both pretty good. Definitely better on tape than live, though.

Tell him we need another Hunter S. Thompson.
I always considered the Butthole Surfers to be a punk band (and one of my favorites) but got shouted down. What did I miss there, guys? Am I really that out of it?

And I saw The Ramones open for Pearl Jam.
Pearl Jam played in the field next to my dorm. This was probably 1990.
At the time, we had never heard of them. I passed on the concert, but I remember hearing them while in the bathroom. (The bathrooms overlooked that field.)
This was in 1995 in the middle of the Pearl Jam vs. Ticketmaster fiasco. I have the ticket somewhere still. I remember it was yellow and tan with their own artwork on it. Pretty cool.

Dookie is the only Green Day that I listen too. I can't help it, but there are a few songs from that one that I like. I bought the CD for American Idiot and then haven't heard a Green Day song since. I always thought Husker Du was the band that had to come first in order for Green Day to occur.
Not a huge punk fan. Out of the top 10 list, I of course know and own some songs by the Clash, the Ramones, and the Sex Pistols. The rest are a mix of bands I've heard of, but never paid any attention to (Black Flag, Dead Kennedys) or ones that I've never even heard of. Of course, I find that punk is mostly just as excuse to not worry that the lead singer cannot sing so he just yells.

I thought it was kinda funny when their singer flipped out when they tried to cut him off on stage lol.
you do realize that whole thing was staged to generate some publicity for their new cd and to make fun of the "rehab" culture in Hollywood and in the music industry, right?

The magazine business has changed drastically in recent years. My sister works for Martha Stewart and has seen many magazines close rapidly while she was working for them. Everything is focused at either what will sell or what will bring in the ad dollars.
