And they wanted to put an image of Mohammed on TV- but Comedy Central refused to let them air the episode as such, so he was edited out. What makes THAT even funnier, is they still got threats.

Always boggles my mind that so many people believe such a crude story made up by a well known Science Fiction author. I'd sooner believe that Michael, the man from Mars, was the second coming and that Heinlein was his prophet.

In reply to Beer Baron:

That's probably why it's called "faith" :)

It's not any worse than the invisible man in the sky who watches you 24/7 and has a list of things that you must never, ever do or you will be sent somewhere horrible for all eternity.

But he loves you...

I, personally, find all religions laughable to some extend. To beleive that aliens pocess your body is no more ridiculous than beleiving an invisible man in the sky loves you and that his zombie son (which is also him) died for the bad things you did.

With that said, I will never question anyones believes, because it is their own. I was recently invited to someone home. He's a Christian and before lunch, he said grace and mentionned me in his prayers. I was very touched, and thanked him for it. While his beliefs do not resonate with me, I know it meant something to him, and I was honored.

But I do beleive that religion is like having a hootus. It's OK to be proud and wanting to share it. But you shouldn't take it out in public, get kids involved with it, or force it upon someone else.

And that's why when I get JW (or any other religious group) at my house, I will not hesitate to kick them out. At that point, they are just another source of unsolicitated publicity. I don't care if it's heat-pumps, windows or a religion you are trying to sell. If I didn't ask for it, get off my land.

Yep. I keep thinking that L. Ron was playing a gigantic joke that just happened to make him a lot of money.

Presented solely for your amusement... the best "religious door knocker" story you will ever hear.

I was house-sitting for some friends in the Chicago suburbs many years ago. Sunday morning, there's a knock on the door. I stumble out of bed wearing nothing but sweatpants.

Some folks spreading their religion were at the door. They were apologetic.

"I'm sorry, sir. Did we wake you?"

"No, I was just having sex."

"Oh, so you're married, then?"

I put on my most wide-eyed, incredulous look and said...

"Do you mean to tell me it's LEGAL to marry goats in Illinois??"

They left really quickly.

I love the idea that only Scientology is founded on really weird ideas that are impossible to believe. Reminds me of my favorite atheist quote, "you only believe in one less religion than me".

No, but it is the only "religion" created by a science fiction author. The only "religion" I know of where the founder very publicly made his living making up stories about space aliens.

I beg to differ unless you say "in the last 60 years" after that.

Hubbard's great grandson Jamie De Wolf does spoken word about his grandfather and how the family was treated by scientologists. It is worth listening to:
