Been here almost exactly eight years.
Some of the downsides:
- the winter grays...you need to get away in Jan/Feb to see the sun or you'll hang yourself
- used car prices seem to be 20-25% higher around here for some reason
- real estate can be pricey
- you don't get much land unless you get pretty far out
- auto-x venues are pretty far apart
The upsides:
- great area for a less-than-conservative mindset
- summertime rocks
- fantastic outdoor activity possibilities
- great opportunities for tech jobs, with quite a few startups and several big guns
- almost no snow in the winter around here, so no road salt
We have a place in Gig Harbor and we love it out on the peninsula. Lower housing costs than the east side of the sound but close enough to commute. You can find many nice areas nearer to the city if you don't mind smaller and more expensive.
I went to school in Rochester ny and my wife grew up there. The lake causes the same effect, no sun until April or may. It stinks, but hey what can you do.
In person is scheduled for next week....
Good luck, hope it works out for you!

I'll tell you when the booze wears off. But I'll just say it was pretty exhausting.
Gotta catch the red eye back.

Interview went well. I hope it works out, I'd like to be part of the dynamism of the place.
Really tough interview though. They really push you to the point that you start to doubt your own abilities. Been there before and won at large case/panel interviews. But it sure was an exhausting process.
I told the recruiter to make the decision easy for me. He grinned and said that wouldn't be hard. I don't know what that means.
Interview went very well. Offer in hand. Need to negotiate better though. I'm scared of selling a house.

We shall see. But if I do, I owe you a beer for all the p71 hate over the years. Least I could do.

Done deal. If you come down we could show you Mt. St. Helens and a drive in the Javelin.

Hey welcome to the hood!!! Congrates!! You have three weeks before the raining season starts.
If you come up we could show you Mt. Baker.
Won't offer a Miata drive because she's not really all that interesting.
Unless you're into ridiculous cookie cutter little deathtraps, then sure.
And I suppose 'we' is a bit misleading, more of a 'me'
Sultan: Three weeks, I'm gonna call that optimistic.
We shall see. The relo needs to be better to make this work.

Snow,
No kidding it's raining here!!!!
Probably ain't gonna happen. Salary is awesome, but our realtor friend is not auspicious about the though l selling in fall. Either a big loss or two mortgages and I can swing that.
The relo package is kinda weak, with only a goods move and some incidental money.

Booo-urns. Good luck on the next one.
What's the rental market like in your area? Maybe rent out your current abode for a year or so before selling it?

Not dead yet. We are looking at renting it.
We will make the call tonight and let the company know Tomorrow.
We are still talking of selling. We owe 280 on the house and probably could sell for 285-295.
Or rent.
