I thought we would all be riding Segways instead of walking by now. What happened? it's almost like Dean Kamen is thought of as a genius and innovator, but is in fact a slick marketer who can pull in millions in investment funds and squander them on something no one wants. 
I don't think we can blame the lack of use on Dean... local laws tended to disallow their use.
Almost everywhere banned Segways from highways/roads. Then most places banned them from sidewalks. And most businesses banned them.
So exactly how do you get from point A to point B? And what do you do with it once you get there?
An eldery buddy, no longer able to walk to the local market and a key target demographic for a Segway, bought one. But he was run off the street, run off the sidewalks, and then had to leave the Segway chained outside where every kid in the neighborhood was crawling all over it. He quickly sold it. And now drives to the store.
Plus, it's kind of like drinking with a straw. No matter how manly you are, it's impossible to look cool or macho using one...
