OK, I just heard on the radio that four people have been shot in D.C. in some navy building.
cut through the noise, give me the signal. What's happening.
edit: It happened at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building. links below

Reports began circulating around 9:30 a.m. that the suspect was “down,” but D.C. police said the suspect is still on the loose and “hiding between floors.”
NBC now says as many as ten may have been shot

The U.S. Navy says three shots were fired at 8:20 a.m. inside Building #197 at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters, 1336 Isaac Hull Ave. in the Southeast section of the District. U.S. military officials say the gunman - armed with an AR-15, a military-style assault weapon - first shot the base security officer.
CNN says shotgun

NBC feed says multiple shooters may have been involved.
Oh man, get out of there safely everyone.

they're now quoting "a senior navy official" (i.e. no name given) who says a dozen shot, four killed
I'm listening to the live feed at that second link
Definitely sounds like a bad situation... but I have to admit when I saw the headline on CNN ("Shots fired in Navy Yard") my first thought was, "Sheesh, doesn't this happen like every other season of NCIS?"
Been trying to follow as best I can with no TV. At least I get notifications on my phone.

My cousin is a Sea-man (hehehehe), and he's stationed on that yard. He was in the Navy Sea building, and heard the shots fired. Himself and a few of his co-workers barricaded themselves in a bulletproof room (he's a nuke, so I'm not surprised these things exist) and was eventually escorted out by DC police. So yeah, HELLA scary.

shooter dead?
In surgery. I doubt he'll live.
Sorry. "One shooter is dead"
I was able to bring up my slingbox on the work computer, so I'm listening to CNN. They finally got smart and said they don't know what weapon was used, but it was a rapid fire, so it is presumed to be a semi-automatic weapon.
First hand description is that it was a "rifle".
6 dead, 12 injured, 2 shooters dead. AR-15s.

2 more potential shooters per DC Police, hope it's bad information.... wtf

Nice.

Russian official blasted “American exceptionalism” in a tweet Monday morning, saying the deadly shooting at Washington’s Navy Yard confirms the worst about the U.S.
“A new shootout at Navy headquarters in Washington — a lone gunman and 7 corpses. Nobody’s even surprised anymore,” tweeted Alexey Pushkov, a member of the Russian parliamentary foreign affairs committee.
“A clear confirmation of American exceptionalism,” he added.
The comment — met with disgust on Twitter Monday, as the situation at Navy Yard continues to unfold — is a reference to the recent New York Times op-ed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In the piece, Mr. Putin blasted American exceptionalism and admonished Americans to remember that God has created everyone equal.
Like Mr. Pushkov’s tweet, Mr. Putin’s comments fueled outrage from U.S. lawmakers and many others.
Their still talking pretty seriously about a 3rd shooter. I'd expect at this point, they'll find their bodies. Suicide?

That looks like a flounder while news is still coming out about people being killed.
Confirmed two or more shooters?
In reply to Adrian_Thompson:
Which is exactly why news agencies have no business speculating on the weapons used until it is confirmed with law enforcement. It is sad to see senseless acts of violence, but it's also sad to see the media providing what may have been misinformation (at the time) to the public. Especially when gun control over the types of weapons mentioned is a hot topic. Not meant to be a flounder but take it as you will.

Meanwhile, a talking head at CNN blurted-out that she had never heard of such a rampage at a military installation. Is it any wonder why the media are held in the same regard as Congress?
And don't get me started on TIME's cover fiasco from last week.
