I will too. I am looking for a job.

Recent college grad with a Bachelor degree in Advertising and Promotion. Looking for a job in the Atlanta, GA area. I have been graduated since April, and I cannot find a job, anybody know someone who is hiring? I would obviously prefer to work in my field, but I can also do Sales, and I am also able to do construction, manufacturing, or even part time jobs. I don't care what the pay is, i just need a job...

can anyone help me?

Not to be harsh, but if you're looking into marketing/advertising, then you need to work on your writing skills.

This is a pretty informal forum, but as soon as you posted for a job you should have started to focus on the image you were presenting. (especially as a marketing major)

While you may be looking for 'any job', it can't hurt to start focusing on jobs that could give you skills in your chosen profession, or at least open some doors. Chances are a job swinging a hammer won't do that. Take a look at the temp agencies in your area. They can generally get you in the door and earning a pay check within a week (assuming you have basic computer skills). The jobs they find will start to fill out your resume and get you some additional hands on time with basic business apps and procedures.

Most of the larger national agencies also offer training in things like Word, Excel, Powerpoint. Even if you don't need the training, it may be nice to put 'passed expert level Powerpoint training' on a resume for entry level jobs.

If they have a local office, look for Robert Half (I think their admin dept. is Office Team or something). Not only can they get you set up with a quick admin position and the training, they also do recruiting for a range of other skills, accounting, tech, executive... so once you're in the door you may be able to shift your focus and make connections within the same office.

Somebody who wants to work at a local ad agency launched a full-scale campaign aimed at getting themselves a job, complete with a twitter account (http://twitter.com/work4barkley), a blog (http://iwant2work4barkley.wordpress.com/) and God only knows what else.

It appears to be working, too. At the very least, they've caught Barkley's attention.

sorry about the informality.. I suppose you are right, I should have written it more professionally.

I am just getting desperate because bills, and student loans are coming due.

A couple of things to think about:

1: You never know who's checking out this message board. I hear comments from people who regularly read our message board but don't post. And some of them are kinda important in our field.

2: You never get a second chance to make a first impression. And I know, I stole that line from a shampoo commercial--which reminds me, I'm nearly out.

Thanks for the advice David...I guess I didn't consider that prospective employers could read what I posted, I was just looking for some advice from some "internet friends"

Well its unlikely a potential employer would have a clue who maroon92 is, it bears remembering that the internet is anything but private. My son has a my space page that would keep him from getting most any job. He's 30 YO, still in college and, apparently, still thinks I am stupid.

That is a tough field right now. Most of what I see out there is for online advertising and promotion. Do you know your way around Twitter, Facebook, Myspace and blogging? That seems to be the area a lot of companies want to get involved in, but don't know how or what to do. They are looking at younger applicants like yourself.

Twitter, Myspace and Facebook I know my way around, I am new to blogging however. I wish I had taken more internet marketing classes, or new media classes.

I feel for you-tough field to get into even in good times ,,,and these are the worst times I've ever seen. You have a degree in advertising and promotion, so advertise and promote yourself! Hard to do with little money, but that's what separates the exceptional from the hackers. Good luck.

It doesn't matter whether you have had classes. Things change fast enough that there is good chance the material would be considered obsolete by the people you want to work for. If you are not following Dan Schawbel on Twitter or reading his blog posts, that's a good place to start.

The web spiders like to see fresh content on your site, and a blog is a great way to do that. So is this board, it shows often people visit the site. All you have to know is how to come up with something fresh and exciting to say about your product or service...even if there really is nothing to say.
