Really digging the Olympics...especially snowboarding the half pipe.  Just curious...what's up with the Ninja Eskimo outfits complete with helmet/goggle/face mask they never remove.  Incognito even when they've completed their runs.

Really enjoying it otherwise thoughlaugh

Do they wear a lot of padding/protective gear?  Amazing how how petite most of the women are...like 5"1" and 105 lbs.  Big balls though.

I don't think there is a lot of padding, but even the men are usually quite small. Shawn white is like 5'9" 155 lbs or something.

Except for the goggles, thats pretty much how I look working outside all day this time of year.

Working or otherwise being out in the cold for several hours really isn't bad when you have enough layers.

It started with the 90's variety of the counter culture movement where skateboarders and people that did tricks with rollerblades wore baggy clothes. Snowboarding outerwear is just an extension of it. The clothes are way more comfortable than ski spandex and you can hide your weed and pipe in them pretty easily for the chair ride up.

Side note: I heard the women's half pipe was a E36 M3 show due to high winds. Something like 20 of 25 competitors fell which resulted in mediocre performances medaling.

Slope style was the E36M3show due to high winds, half pipe medal round had pretty much perfect weather last night. Chloe Kim is a BAMF.

I've heard the temps are in the 20's there and even colder on the sled runs.  Add the temp on the mountain and the fact that they're cruising pretty quickly and being able to see to stick a landing would quickly add up to the goggles and facemasks to stay warm. Agree with The0retical that snowboarders have always been a little counter culture, though, taking the attitude of comfort over fashion.   I really liked the blue jeans and flannel shirt look of the 2010 outfits.
