those are normally malty brews opposed to hoppy. And I like IPA's I used to live walking distance from Flying Dog Brewery, was sponsored by them and had growlers they'd fill for me before they started doing tours or even had a tasting room. There's an art to a good IPA though, not just over hop all the things.

I don't really like any beer. I'd much rather have a scotch.

One local bar has 4 IPA's on tap. The only lager type beer that they have is PBR. Seriously? You can't even put in a Stella, or similar?

I may have to try another Stella someday. The one I drank a few years ago was hideous. Maybe it was bad...

Personally, I'd rather drink Pabst than pay the premium for some middling mass produced euro pale lager.

It isn't great, but it isn't bad on tap.

I had a bad experience with scotch when I was like... 19. Though I suspect due to the fact that I was 19, whatever I bought could only loosely be called scotch and therefore not a benchmark of the label. I do like me a fine whiskey in both irish and bourbon fashions....

I have only drunken to excess once or twice. It's one area where my girth and genetics allow me to carry on pretty much indefinitely.

In general I agree with you, but the place in question is one of those hipster type places that thinks PBR is worth $3 a pint. The only reason we ever go there is that it is rarely very busy, and the two good bars in walking distance usually are. Huh, funny how that works.

It's the hipsters...it's all their fault.

I plan to do a pilot batch sometime in the spring that will use actual pine needles in place of a portion of the hops. It will not be an IPA. The entire point of the beer will be to smell like a forest after a heavy rain (I have done this back in my home brewing days).

I'm very proud of our IPA. You can drink multiple of them and still taste food. Hope flavor/aroma are achieved pretty much completely separately from hop bitterness. Our IPA is strongly dry-hopped but fairly mildly bittered. So you stick your nose in it and get a great bouquet, and when you sip it don't feel like you're shaving your tongue.

I love IPAs. All of them. The issue is drinking them in context. I don't go for a palette blaster while eating. It's an event itself.
