That's easily one of the 5 coolest things I've seen this month, and I've gotten up close and personal with abunch of LMP1/2/C cars and helped (slightly) put the #20 Dyson Mazda Lola back together at like 8:30 the night of the VIR ALMS race!

Nice work from the advertising department--IMO, if done correctly the "slow reveal" actually works. How's the rest of it going? (no pix, don't want you to violate your contract, just curious about the degree of difficulty)

It's coming together really well. I'm down to just the arms and hands, and I've got the basic structure and joints done for the arms. The hardest part is building the facade of the hinges (if that terms works here). The actual joints don't look like much, so I decided to make large industrial looking hinges that cover the actual joints. The hips, knees, and ankles were tricky, but nothing compared to the shoulders, elbows, and wrists. I've got multiple angles of articulation in all of those joints.

He's not quite done yet, but the Evansville Design Group had their yearly award presentation at the brewery (they're not actually open yet) and they borrowed him for the event. Here's a pic of the robot they posted from the event.

Here's the album if you want to see what the rest of the place looks like. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.311111369004043.71350.156819861099862&type=1

I'm not sure how much of it I can actually copyright. The head was based off of their preexisting logo, and the basic shape and style of the robot was a collaborative effort between myself and the two designers that created the brand. So after the three of us collaborated, we came up with a silhouette drawing (that actually later became the men's restroom sign after some tweeking).

The rest is all me. Once we decided on the basic shape, they basically told me to go nuts on it. So the materials used, construction methods, the hands, and all the details are 100% my design, but the overall shape is probably 1/2 my design.

That being said, the designers are very impressed and are putting my name out there whenever possible, so if anyone in the tri-state area needs some crazy ass robot built, they'll know who to call.

They're going to have to chain him to the wall to keep the college students from trying to steal him.

How's the product display thing for the chest grate coming?

Yeah, we've actually talked about that. I think he'll probably be just out of reach of the general public. Even if no one tries to steal it, some drunk jackass will knock it over, and I'm sure several will cut themselves trying to take their picture with it. I've smoothed out everything I can, but it's a giant scrap metal robot, it will have sharp edges. That being said, they are thinking of having special events where you can get your picture taken with Tin Man. I believe having him in a Santa hat and people's pictures taken sitting on his lap was talked about.

The chest piece is coming along alright, although I haven't had much time to work on it since I posted last. I've mainly just been wiring him up for the LEDs and what-not. I'm going to play around with some cans this weekend and figure out how I want to do that part.

Yeah. I build these frames out of old corrugated tin. Had a lady come in and want a whole Pediatrician's office done in them. I said "That's probably a bad idea. I de-burr the edges so no one gets poked, but they'll still be pretty sharp." She could not be dissuaded. I made her sign something saying I'd informed her that the edges of these things were sharp and shouldn't be used in that kind of environment...you might want to do the same thing with these guys just in case.

Could be good bread & butter for the doctor. "MOMMY, MY FINGER'S BLEEDING!"

"That'll be a hundred dollars, ma'am."
