They're in their 60's, have been divorced for 10 years and she violated a court order.
Yeah, that one is pretty cut and dry.
Can anyone confirm that you have to disassemble a 914 completely to see the VIN number? Sounds like BS to me.
Unless it's been scraped off, the VIN is on the registration sticker on the windshield. Also on a tin tag on the dash, stamped into the firewall and I believe the door jamb.
Not like those are Porsche's...Was the 914 not sold as a VW in the real world? Kind of like the "Ferrari" Dino

I was thinking similar.
Here is Ohio, I can show up at a Title Office and show photo ID to prove who I am. From there they can tell me every vehicle I own in my name and for $16 each they will print me a Duplicate Title on the spot.

Yeah---- those Dinos will never be worth much......Dino prices
The hidden VIN thing does not make much sense
If the shell was re-imported from the US, there should be a metal tag near the lower-left corner of the windshield frame that has the VIN. All 914s should have an engraved VIN number on the top of the right-front wheel house, inside the trunk. All should also have a riveted-in plate in the front trunk on the right-side headlight bucket.
Chassis/VIN Plate 911 VIN plate is on the offside drivers door frame in a sticker format. Earlier models have the plate inside the front boot on the offside inner wing or near to the front.
Perhaps the stolen docs weren't NY state docs but from whatever state they used to live in, and so he had to get a physical VIN inspection done?
