So, I'm biking late morning today a few miles east of Richmond International (RIC) when I hear, then see a flight of two aircraft, flying in formation. Twin engine, turboprop?, B-24 style tail, wings had an upward tilt out towards the wingtip. Predominant color was either white or silver, but I feel there was some blue and yellow on the tail. Planes were large-ish, but not huge.
What did I see?
Something with this approximate conformation, but I do not think they were Beechcraft Model 18's.
Beechcrafts are extremely rare now because of wing spar corrosion issues. Also, this...
Yes, actual picture. The stuntman flew a Beechcraft THROUGH a billboard!!
There used to be a Lockheed Electra Junior with a turboprop conversion that used to fly around me a lot (haven't seen it in a while). Can't find a pic of a conversion, this one is stock.

Possible, I suppose. I really didn't get the impression these were antique aircraft, and I'm pretty sure the engines were turboprop based on the sound. And the wings looked longer than either the Beech or the Lockheed.
Twin Mustang?! (there is only one flying):
OV10 Bronco? (firefighting spotter plane)

If there were really, really, really loud, might be Osprey tilt-rotors!
Nope, nope, nope, nope.
These were sleek-ish, not boxy.
I've seen Osprey plenty of times. Not an Osprey.
Kinda wish I had grabbed my phone and snapped a pic. It wouldn't have been a good pic, but it might have helped.

With two aircraft in formation it suggests military. Maybe C2 Greyhounds?

Agree likely military, but not so chunky as those.
Just to be clear, are you saying it had low-mounted wings?
Sure it was a twin tail? Did it look anything like a King Air (super common plane). Are these winglets the "turned up wings" you are talking about (dihedral in the outer wings is super uncommon)
Here is an example of dihedral in the outer wing:
Was there an air show in the area? Could be a Commemorative/confederate air force bird.

I just stabbing here now! Grumman Mohawks were retired in 1996, but could be civilian's flying them.
So far everything points to a couple of UFOs

I believe they were low-mounted. And the wings had a distinctly compound dihedral angle, with the root nearly horizontal and the tip with an upward bend.
You didn't say anything about a radome, how about an E-2C Hawkeye? EDIT: Just saw your post, disregard.. Nice picture here though..
In reply to trucke :
There are a few Mohawks in civie hands.
Doubtful it's an Electra. They are stupid rare.
In reply to aircooled :
Definitely twin tail. Not just a little upturn at the wingtip, but more like the wing in the little red, white and blue plane. Of course, these were much larger than that.
Living near the airport, I see lots of planes. These caught my eye as unusual, as they were propeller-(turboprop) driven and flown in formation.

I see those from time to time. No radome. More graceful-looking. Only two vertical stabilizers on the tail.
The upturn wing tips tells me they are newish . Turboprops wouldn't be a WW2 military aircraft.
Maybe the new Canadian Electric planes? Depends if the engine sound you heard was kinda Jet sounding or was it just propeller noise?
Antonov An-28? Perhaps the blue and yellow were the Ukrainian flag on the tail? :)
