Where can I actually purchase some ammo right now?
Mainly .223 and .40
I was at Walmart friday and they had some ammo. Not sure what all they had but they were not out of everything.
good luck on .223. That E36 M3 was scarce for a while causing some stupid pricing on anything brass cased.
There is one store here in town that has some of each. I bought the last box of 9mm in town yesterday (and I mean out of every last store in town). Still a bit of .45 ACP and .38 Spl available. Not a drop of .22 LR available even stuff like CB shorts are gone. The only rifle calibers available or some of the more odd hunting calibers, all of the regular stuff or things derived from military cartridges are long gone. Most shotgun loads left are target or bird hunting rounds, no slugs and very little buck shot.
There are two .338 Lapua rifles still on the shelves along with plenty of ammo for each. There is also a .50 BMG bolt available local as well. There is not however a semi auto rifle to be found in any of the three towns around here not even a single 10/22. Most rifles that are found are standard hunting bolt actions and you will not find a .30-06 or .308 in the lot.
About all there is here is. .17 calibers, 243, 270, and some 30-06......oddly enough, there's currently a huge selection of shotgun slugs(deer season is my guess)

I've got your .223 for $13/20 rd box. No .40 at the moment, but you can try midwayusa.com
Actually, not at the moment. I've been avoiding the stores since November, but I have sufficient stock for now.
Gander Mtn had plenty of ammo the other day but it is higher than most other stores. I bought 1000 rounds of 7.62 hollow point early in December and I could make some nice money on it if I didnt want to keep it. I did order some extra cap mags for SKS the other day from Bass Pro Shops online. There probably is not one good "go to" store at this point.

I accidentally reported this instead of upvoting it. Sorry.
I stopped at Cabela's the other day, and the gun department was 5 people deep at the counter. Wow. Man, I should have bought a gun over the summer when I wanted to! Oh well, I have enough 12GA rounds to survive for a while. And I have seen some deals on these:

Don't pay attention the news much, do ya?
I should have pointed out (yeah posting under the influence of Vodka!) I don't even own a weapon yet, but those are the two calibers I'm looking to purchase.
I realize gun prices are getting a bit out of hand, but Congress won't ban our guns and all the "preppers" will calm down and prices will return to reasonable.

It isn't so much the "preppers" causing the current conditions. Most of them already have more ammo and firearms that most people can imagine.
It happens every time a Dem gets elected. Add to that our current gun control conversation and you have uber-paranoia.
Yes, the NRA and the firearms industry love the fear mongering.

That's because they've raised the price from ~$.40/round to $1/round.

No butt stock? Add and extra $200.00...

So does Mr. Obama. Helps the economy. These weapons are made by US companies and those that aren't have to deal with compliance issues such as 922r. There will be no bans. Mr. Obama said it himself. He is the best gun salesman ever.
