The rubber isolators really do work well, but they're not cheap.  The resilient channel helps limit vibration transfer and is much cheaper.

Use 5/8" type X fire rated drywall on the ceiling and place carpet on two walls and the floor.

I would think the channel stuff would make for an overall easier install as well, right?

Some interesting stuff on resilient channels as i hadn't heard of them.  They sound like the hot ticket for my to be finished basement/office ceiling.

Maybe it's just me but hanging ceiling 5/8" drywall off of that Z channel sure looks flimsy. They also show the wall drywall sitting on the floor which should never be done in a basement. It should be held up off of the floor 1/2" minimum in case of flooding which I assume defeats the purpose.

The height of the basement is 7'.

Keeping the the kids in the basement logistically doesn't work, because there is no bathroom, one of them takes a nap, and they eat pretty much all day long. Atleast in the summer, I can setup in my screen porch or they are outside, but the winter is tough in close quarters. Especially when they are sick.

Days like today are tough because they are all home for winter break so I have sound proof ear muffs on drowning out the sound. Luckily I only had one meeting today. I think next time I will just go to the library.

I decided to get a estimate on converting the basement into two rooms, ceiling,  enclosing the electrical box, sump pumps and built in shelving and they wanted $70k to $100k and wanted $1500 to come to my house to do the renderings. Might as well move to another house.
