Driving back from CT in heavy traffic, there were several construction zones. BTW, In 10 years, I've never driven Rt 84, east or west, and NOT run into construction! Southern NY, I was holding at 77-79 mph but getting passed on a Sunday afternoon. Work zones go down to 55 mph. I didn't. Workers are home on weekends.
Got a nice ticket in the mail, nice in that the pictures are VERY good. Front, side and rear shots, very clear, an up close of my plate, no debate from me. I was speeding. The window areas were blocked out so you can't see any occupants, so it's $50 with no points on your license.
It's no defense but cars were doing a horizon job on me at the time. They probably got one too.
A while back, I thought it would have been fun to get a shot from a speed camera and frame it. Go get a ticket on purpose. Top down, hand over my head making a peace sign. Then call them and ask for a full-resolution shot.

I didn't realize they were using speed cameras on 84. Where was that?
And yeah, I'm like you, I've always set my cruise at 78 on 84, and the game is how long I can keep using it before I have to hit the brakes for someone going 55 in the left lane...

I'm for owning up to your mistakes but...
Can they prove it was you driving?
It was in the Catskills, probably near Newburgh or Kingston. Governor Hokum needs a new helicopter.
We have roving work zone speed cameras in PA. They can be anywhere, the camera itself is a large black box on the roof of a white Grand Cherokee or Dodge equivalent. Private contractor to the state, and, so far, I have only seen them while the workers are present...They can be far back from the road too!

In reply to iansane :
In VA they don't bother establishing driver and send it as a civil fine to the registered owner. On paper it's like a parking ticket. Doesn't give you any points on your licenses or anything. My brother picked up a couple and didn't realize it till my dad got the fines in the mail as he was registered owner.

They don't care who was driving, but that's why it's a fine only and not a points offense.
They used to put a Trooper in the work crew, dressed in safety orange and holding a Radar Gun. Say he catches 6 cars an hour. Drop the gun, give chase, loop around and do it again. The new method gets 10 cars in 1 minute @ $50 each. No danger to cops' health, easier on equipment, more income for the State.
