Anyone from or ever visited St Louis? I need to go for training for work and one of the locations on the table is St. Louis. Never been there before and im wondering if its worth it to speed a week there vs staying closer to home in massachusetts.

Arch, Brewery, pretzel place, transportation museum, the Hill, Busch garden thing, Mississippi river boats, the humidity.....

I lived in St. Louis from 1966 - 1970. The South County mall used to be closed on Sunday's and lots of kids used to go their with go karts and drive around the open asphalt - that started me asking my dad if I could get a go kart.

St. Louis is a good city to visit. Make sure to take in a ball game and to visit the City Museum if you have a strong inner kid in you. It is truely a one of a kind place.

From Wikipedia: City Museum is a museum, consisting largely of repurposed architectural and industrial objects, housed in the former International Shoe building in the Washington Avenue Loft District of St. Louis, Missouri

Not much left there. You can watch the travelogue show "Defiance" on the sci-fi channel to find the must see spots.

I must say they've got a very diverse population so go with an open mind.

Good discussion we had a year or so ago about it. Lived there from 2009-2010, it's definitely a fun place to visit.

Revhard, I'd be happy to suggest places to go, but I know practically nothing about you. Are you a guy that wants to race carts? Eat well? Drink the local brews? Are you a kid at heart? Visit the zoo? Visit some museums? Check out the historic towns? There is a lot to do, just need to know where to look.

St Louis born & raised. Still lovin it.

Unfortunately the guy who made it was involved in a fatal bulldozer mishap. RIP. He left his wonderful artwork behind.

I saw the arch at night the one time I've been near. It was astounding in person, far more than I was expecting. Don't miss it

Drop in an say hello to Jason and Lonnie. They are in Bourbon, MO about an hour outside St. Louis. Not only do they build cool cars, but they both used to drive monster trucks for a living. Nice guys and cool stories.

If you don't have time to ride the elevator pod to the top of the arch, at least park nearby and go stand at the base of it.

And go to the city museum. The pictures above don't come anywhere near doing it justice. It's a place that can't be properly described. You just have to go.

Hookers are easy to find by the convention center.

We went for a short trip last year. We did the Arch and thought it was interesting (but I couldn't get the wife to do the ride up), the Zoo at 107* as they were having heat waves then -probably won't be that hot this year (!) , - a good one,and ate pizza at Pi due to the recommendations from the guys here -good pizza!. We liked it for a short weekend.

Some of the best coffee in town is in the Central West End at Coffee Cartel (at Maryland and Euclid, one block from Kingshighway and Lindell), which is a very short distance from Forest Park (if you're looking for a quiet area with great museums, trails, etc.).

St. Louis also just got a Pole Position karting raceway that the SCCA guys are raving about.

Other than that, heck if I know!

Born and raised a couple counties out, been in the city for ten years now. Also happy to help, if, as Sper suggested, we can get some info about the scope of your visit and the sort of things you're looking for.

@ Sperlo

I mainly lurk so i dont say much on the boards but i enjoy the eclectic knowledge here. When i travel I like to eat whats popular in the area, I avoid chain restaurants when I can. Hit local tourist sights. I enjoy art museums and architecture.

I also like whiskey, beer, and cars, if that helps.

One of the thousands of things to see inside the City Museum is an architectural salvage...museum.

Cunetto's on the Hill for Italian food. Get there 30 minutes before it opens, otherwise you'll be waiting for about 2 hours.

Arch is very cool to do at least once. Catch a ball game if you can, great place to watch one. Out of the 6 or 7 places I've seen an MLB game, Busch probably ranks #2 to Wrigley. Lot of good craft brews there. Heck, even the Budweiser is better there. Every time I've been I have caught a concert somewhere.

Rarely. Better off by Salisbury, North of Parnell. Saw three at Florissant on Saturday night. Their more expensive on a Friday. Also some off of North Jefferson and St Louis Ave.

In reply to revhard:

Check out Schlafley Tap Room for food and beer. Forest park has most of the museums. Go down to The Arch. Avoid Union Station. Head on over to Old St Charles for stores and the bars/clubs at night. The Landing can be good. Dogtown. The Hill is great for food. Triumph Grill (I think) is a good bar/motorcycle museum.

If you're in town and need more info, just private message me.

Enjoy!

True, but I'd be more worried about the crime rate late at night.
