A bit off topic, but- I saw a jabba action figure the other day. Action should be taken figuratively, because really..... What kind of action is there in a giant space booger?
How does the line from "Big" go? "So what's so fun about playing with a building?"

Exactly. Though the inner 10 year old wants the giant millennium falcon that's out for the holidays this year.

Nothing wrong with that. I'll probably watch some more Clone Wars this evening.

The new Rebels series isn't too bad, either once you get past the Disney animation style and jokes that are directed at 10 year olds.
Be sure to watch this move while waiting in line.

Lots of nerd complaints about the red light saber with the hilt.
It leaves me asking questions, which is totally fine. I though theteaser was fairly tense from the get-go. What, a Stormtrooper without his helmet? And who is he running from? And, crap, sounds like there's a probe droid after him.
And that crazy lightsaber. Who is that? Someone we thought was no more? Looks like he's a lefty, too. Does that narrow it down?
I thought I heard rumors that Benedict Cumberbatch was going to be a Sith, in this one? The voiceover sure sounds like him.

I thought it sounded like a gravelly Tom Hardy.
I'll hafta give it another listen.

Pardon me, but I find it laughable that a few tiny clips of video can get a bunch of space nerds all excited. That teaser shows absolutely nothing that will determine if the new movie will be good or just another Phantom Menace.
You are just not a nerd enough.
The one thing it does show is that the approach to the cinematography will capture the original, and not run down the CG rabbit hole.
With modern technology, it's actually harder than you think. The original (episode 4) was completely rendered without CG. It was all done with modeling.
The reason the "prequels" and remasters looked bad was all the CG work. Star Wars now nearly 40 years old. There have been a lot of technological changes. The technology wasn't good enough to capture the right feel.
It appears now that they've got it.
Very much this.
As soon as I saw practical stormtrooper uniforms that excused a lot of Jar-Jar for me. One of the great things about episodes 4-6 is that the world looked lived in. Worn. Dirty. The way you would imagine a galaxy torn by civil war might look. CGI can do many wonderful and amazing things, but it's terrible at randomness, which is abundant in galaxies far, far away. Troopers bump their heads on doors, some uniforms fit better than others, sometimes blasters don't work and sometimes the walls of your piece-of-crap spaceship shake when you hit them.
I'm far more hopeful after this teaser, but I'm not ready to buy in completely just yet. I'm not a huge fan of Abrams' take on the Star Trek universe—too much reliance on punching and too little reliance on the type of intellect, cleverness and loyalty that the universe was founded on. And let's not forget that the original trailer for Episode 1 was pretty good, too.
Still, I'll be there opening day, hopeful as ever.
What JG said.
Now we can get back to our offline conversation about kitchen countertops.

Now... uhmmm... he's clearly not a stormtrooper... you know... uhmm... well, unless they went with a new "model".

I thought the new Trek movies felt a lot more Star Wars-ish, makes me hopeful he can do actual Star Wars right.

You mean the uniform or the guy inside? Someone correct me, but I thought that after the Clone Wars Stormtroopers started to come from recruits, not just clones. The suit looks smoother than I remembered, too.
And maybe he's just a guy who woke up in the wrong suit and is having a really bad day. Or maybe the entire trailer is a dream. See, tension and questions.

Am I the only one who is worried that the soccer ball droid is the 2015 version of Jar Jar Binks?
Also, I do not trust J.J. Abrams to be able to finish a story after the way Lost ended. I suppose that may mean there will be more and more Star Wars movies in the future, which would be ok with me, as long as he doesn't just introduce mysteries that never get solved.
My 6 year old is as stoked as I am !

Yeah. You'll remember in Ep 6 the round dish was knocked off.
That's what happens when you let Lando borrow your ship.
I'm offended by the stormtrooper!
Under that proud, snow white uniform, we find a black man.
It's like Disney is saying that, deep down inside, we all want to be black!
If you get all offended by this, go watch Chasing Amy..

We saw that at Walmart and I tried to convince SWMBO that Jack needed it for Christmas. She was not convinced that a 2 month old would want nor need the Millenium Falcon. It made me sad.
"He can play with it when he's older"
Would have been the correct answer.
I'm really looking forward to this. I know people are up in arms about Disney owning the Star Wars franchise, but honestly, after seeing what they did with the Marvel franchise, I have no worries. They have the money and knowledge to do it right.
Already knowing from what we have seen from the trailer, I can say that I'm really digging the cinematography. I hope that they don't CGI it up too much.
As for the lightsaber, I think it looks like a traditional medieval sword, but in lightsaber form.

Yeah, I have a 3 year old, but I'd have to let him play with it, and he'd destroy it.
And the things you come across on your Twitter feed. Amy Ratcliffe (@amy_geek) posted this from a Ralph McQuarrie interview:
"I think Artoo was just described as a small robot. I thought of him as running on a giant ball bearing--just a sphere, a circle, wheel-like."
My only question is this, how is Darth Vader still breathing in the trailer of he is dead?

The prequels have pretty much killed the love for this franchise. Going to take some really good reviews to get me in the theater.
Abrams has proven he can make Star Wars, he has already done 2, just cleverly disguised as the adventures of a young Captain Kirk.
I for one expect Luke to die in a light saber battle, just as the other bearded elderly Jedi Masters have died in the first(respectively) movies before him.
