I guess my point is that GRM the magazine has to be one of the most direct mediums for reaching his specific customers. Threads on internet forums isn't going to change that. I doubt (don't know for sure) that this threads negativity surpasses getting the advertisement in front of the eyes of very potential customers.

Just an innocent bystander of sorts here........and here is my opinion. No dog in the fight, no nutswinging, just an observation or two.

I've run into Terry here in DFW at local autox and time trial events. I've seen him give back a ton to the hardcore car enthusiast community here. I'll define hardcore car enthusiast community as the folks that get together to actually drive their cars. Not the show and shine, not the hardpark and floss.....but TT/DE/autox. He is always available to help a driver, any driver, with a question on car setup, how to drive a line, etc. At an event he'll gladly give ride alongs, and I've seen him drop what he's doing to help someone out with a car problem/breakdown, etc.

Terry has also built up a pretty good business from small beginnings. The shop is always full of customer cars (and getting $105/hr to do stuff to customer cars, from LSswaps to track prep, to full builds) and the machines are always busy cranking out parts. So yeah, you guys that want stuff made in America, they are doing it, not offshoring .

The one thing I can say is that the guy is indeed passionate. Passionate about being the best on track, about providing parts/builds/solutions that are a cut above what others provide. Sometimes that passion leads to the exchange we have here. Not saying that Terry was right or wrong in his response, but I can certainly understand the response, especially if this was perhaps the 5th or 8th or whatever time something like this has happened in a week/month/whatever.

One other thought -- it's pretty easy to say how the buyer/seller experience is supposed to go when you're not involved in the transaction. Yeah, right.....all transactions are supposed to go off perfectly, seller always says thanks for not buying my stuff, you come back later when you're really sure you want to do this, etc. It's also pretty easy to say that someone doesn't have the best back office procedures to handle this sort of thing. The fact of the matter is this: if it were so easy to run your own business selling stuff that, at the end of the day, people really don't need to survive every day, we'd all be running our own business and excelling at it.....and every transaction would be perfect! A+, would buy again, right?

I don't know about you all, but when I'm dropping serious coin on my projects, I think about it an awful lot before I start involving others and pulling out the credit card, whether that is another shop, some boutique guy selling wares on Ebay, or a megastore like Summit Racing. I don't want to embarrass myself and be "that guy" who calls or emails and has to basically say "uhh, yeah, that $2k order I just placed 2 hours ago/last night when I was drunk.......just kidding."

Like I said, just a few observations, YMMV, remember what you paid for this, do not operate heavy machinery, see a doctor if your erection lasts more than 4 hours, I am not a lawyer but have stayed at a Holiday Inn, etc.

all that you've said about Terry is correct, from everything I've ever heard about him ... in THAT sort of context .... in person, at the track,autoX ... etc

the problem seems to arise whenever he has to deal with customers via electronic media (and not, by any stretch, every time), but when HE does have a blow up, it's usually like this ...

disclaimer: I've never met him, but I have heard, multiple times, every thing that went down here, when he's the one that's handling the customer service side of his business .. his response was totally unacceptable, assuming he wants people to order from him

when I had to take CSR/sales courses ( I was a bench tech, repairing the units) we learned that ONE dissatisfied customer will tell dozens of others, that might have been wondering where to shop ... whereas a satisfied customer would tell no more than one or two people of his good experience ... maybe Terry needs to stay away from that part of the business, and concentrate on the part he knows and does best

if nothing else, it would stop E36 M3 storms like this
