So, I'm sure many of you had heard that PSN (Playstation Network) got hacked on/around 04-20-11. Sony had maintained that it was theoretically possible that if you had a credit card attached to the account, that number could have been compromised, though they didn't have the security code from the back of the card. Earlier today, Sony confirmed that it DID lose all the credit card numbers..... including mine. Thankfully, i'm paranoid and watch my checkbook online like a hawk. Log in today, and someone had spent 170$ to upgrade their Farmville Farm (Zynga Games charge...) on my dime. Called Wells Fargo, closed that card down. Really sucks because autox is this weekend and I needed to buy a cooler and a bag of ice to keep my TMIC from heatsoaking the crap out of my car. Oh well, at least I caught it before it got REAL bad.

I have a PSN account that I created when I got a PSP last year. For the life of me I cant remember if it actually required me to provide a card # when I signed up, or if thats just voluntary if you want to buy items online.

It was only needed if you wanted to buy things online, or at least it was when I did my ps3.

I removed my card info a month or two ago. I wonder if they kept it stored. I sure hope not...

Could you link to where Sony admitted this? It's not that I don't believe you, but I don't see anything that explicitly says that credit card data was stolen on the official PS blog or any of the major news or gaming websites.

Lemme dig it up...... hmm. Kotaku had it earlier, and apparently it's either been pulled down, or I'm blind. Apparently an Aussie fellow was already bilked for 2k on this mess, or so the article said.

Yikes. I've been keeping an eye on my credit statements and so far I'm alright, but I am ready to jump on the first fraudulent charge I find.

Sony's summary

From the above: "While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained."

Shouldn't that money be refunded to you? And can't the bank be able to track where that money went?

I use the PS3 for Hulu+ and Neflix. Which neither can be used without PSN network, this is akin to my cable being out, not life threatening but it major sux!!!!!

Yeah... Crud, someone on this forum (but not this thread) told me they'd been able to use it, and I tried it again and got in.

It complains when you try to sign in, and it swears you need to be signed in to use netflix, but at some point in the process the error is sitting in front of the normal netflix screen, and if you dismiss it (sorry, can't recall whether it's 'back' or 'okay'), you're in... Watched some netflix last night

I filed a claim with my bank already, I should get my dough back. I should contact Zynga and see if they can tell me who/where the money was applied to.

Yeah, I was able to get into Netflix, cant seem to get Hulu working with the same trick, Hulu is more important to me than netflix.

You'll need to log in to post.
