So my phone is a bit old. It's a Samsung Note 8 which means no 5G capability. I have no interest in going to an iphone at all and have been with Samsung a long time. However reading the reviews, there doesn't sound like there is much out there that's any good. Has anyone purchased an android phone thru Tmobile that has been halfway decent? From reading the reviews on the Samsung S22, I can see why they are offering a $400 credit if you trade your old phone in.
Suggestions?

I've been on TMobile for....20 years now? My last two phones have been OnePlus phones, first a 7 pro and then a 9 pro. Im very happy with them. They compare favorably to the Samsung's for less $$$ and arguably a better camera.
Edit
https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone/oneplus-9-pro-5g that's what I am typing this on.
I just got a Moto G Pure from Tmobile. It is not 5 G capable, but 4G won't depart for a long while yet. So far I am happy with it. Tmaybe themselves, not so much. Lots of dead spots nearby.
We switched to T-Mobile after 21 years with att/Cingular/cellular 1. Been a good experience with our iPhones and we just got real home internet with their 5G wireless home thingy. Saving $32/month and went from 5Mb down 0.5 up to 90-180 down 40-80 up depending on the time of day.
I know you said no iPhail but it's what we use. Just got the wife a new SE.
I was with Sprint and then they merged with T-Mobile. I had an old flip phone that wasn't going to work anymore, so I went to the T-Mobile store to get a replacement. The cheapest offering (the plan is about $1.00/month more expensive than my old flip phone) was a Revvl V+ 5G. It's a T-Mobile exclusive phone. The plan includes unlimited texts and high speed data.
Since I'm coming from the prehistoric flip phone world, I'm probably only using a fraction of its capabilities but so far I'm happy with it. My one complaint is it's really big...that does mean the screen is larger than most, but it's also like carrying a chunk of 2x4 around in my pocket.

I'm in the same boat, have an old Sony that is listed as 4G capable but T-mobile's site says it's not compatible when checking the IMEI number.
I think I'll just get a 5G phone to cover all bases.
Wish I could help, since I'm more a fruit phone person, but I hope you can get one that is in stock. I looked into an upgrade of a 5 year old fruit phone, and for the ones that are good deals, there are non in stock. This is also with t-mobile/sprint.
Re the 4G vs 5G - while I agree that 4G probably isn't going away anytime soon, it might still be beneficial to have a 5G phone. 5G is actually a catch-all for multiple technologies and frequency bands, and the way it uses lower frequency bands actually tends to result in better coverage in rural areas as well, albeit at 4G-like speeds.
I've got both a 4G iPhone and a 5G OnePlus 7T Pro, both on T-Mobile, and the latter tends to have more coverage than the former. You won't necessarily notice that in metro areas, but it is noticeable out in the sticks. That does seem to be somewhat T-Mobile specific though. AFAIR they did invest a fair amount into 5G in more rural areas than some of their competitors.

We typically get our phones on the open market rather than buying them from the carrier - although we got a good deal on the wife's uh... Samsung? phone through Costco and my youngest has a low-end Samsung that was the "free" phone when we added a line for her. I'm probably being pound-foolish about this, but I've been buying the Motorola phones for the last few years and replacing them every other year. Right now I've got the Moto One 5G Ace which was around $300ish on Amazon. I've been really happy with the phones over the years but I will admit that they are not the best-of-the-best out there but more of a value-for-the-money deal. Now my wife typically buys the $1100+ Samsung model and it'll last her for several years. My daughter is using her hand-me-down phone which I think is an S8 and she never complains about it. Which is strong praise from a 15 year old that has a black belt in complaining. I think that phone is something like 5 years old at this point, whereas my Motos are ready to be dumped after 2.
I am in the market to replace my 8 year old Kyocera. I'd prefer to stay with Android and avoid Samsung products. Read several bad reviews about OnePlus stuff but good reviews here.
I want something 5G and very simple. One step up from a flip phone.
For T mobile you need band 71 ,
they have their own 5g frequency as make sure you check that out , but 5g is not everywhere anyway ,
I use Motorola , often on sale on Amazon thru Motorola direct

You might be better off with a one or two gen old Google pixel. I've been happy with my OnePlus phones- and they are very simple, but Google's ui was just a little bit easier when I used that.
Pixel 4 is on the list. I want something "small"
We just switched to T-mobile and got the Samsung A32 5G phones for free. It was very sweet considering their 55 Plus program cut our costs by almost 2/3rds over Verizon.

Excellent phone. It was one of my finalists about 3 years ago after I smashed my s8+ riding snow white at magic kingdom.
