The best thing to do might be to leave it on your desk for people to fidget with and then after a few minutes explain the incredible journey it's been on.

WE ARE ON THE BACKSIDE OF THIS!!!!! My surgery yesterday could not have gone any better. I had a roughly 6" section of my small intestine removed. The area was damaged and reduced to the point that only liquids could pass through. No wonder eating was so painful. The mesentary, the sheet of blood vessels that overlays and supplys blood to the intestines was also damaged and not allowing adequate blood supply to my damaged section. Really amazing stuff!! I have pictures but no camera.

I have a new 6-8" scar down from my belly button, an NG tube down my nose, a catheter, oxygen up my nose, IV's and leg socks that squeeze to ward off blood clots. But guess what? My Doc was just here (6:30 AM) and he checked me out and said all my tubes (other then IV) can come out today and I can have popsicles today. Even though there is a fair bit of pain I can tell the difference in my abdomen. We are past this and the recovery can start! 10 months after the accident in this case but I'll take it.

A huge thank you for the kind words of encoragement. I needed a bit of buoying going into this and you came through like forum members I know and love. I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

It is going to be a great day. Not a day with doughnuts, yet, but still a great day!

HOME! Healing went well and everyday showed major improvement. Pain has been minimal and even though they gave me a script I doubt I'll fill it. Previous gastro issues are gone which is an amazing feeling. I'm still going to take it easy for the next few weeks but I'm processing solids with no problems. Next Tue I get my staples out and I can call this chapter closed other than not being able to lift 10+ lbs for 6 weeks.

Thank you again for all the positive thoughts! It seriously helps when dealing with this stuff.

Asked again for the camera this AM and doc said they just can't do that.

Good to see you home and recovering well. Can this can all be traced back to the lap belt? Or was it hitting the side of the seat?

In reply to Gearheadotaku:

I think most definitely the lap belt. I was wearing a 3" wide belt with camlock and my gut absorbed the majority of the g-forces. Based on some of my research my guess is that it took about 40-55 g's. No wonder something got crushed. The damaged mesentary and intestine were roughly a 3"x3" square area so my bet is on the camlock housing.

I still kinda want to do a thread on the risks of driving your race car on the street but I think it would essentially come down to "if you can't wear ALL your saftey gear, you are not safe." But, with everything there is risk. If I had been on my motorcycle I would have been dead. If in my '77 Bronco, probably hurt worse. My GS430? I may have walked away, but who knows. Regardless, there are some things in your life that are out of your control. Let the people you love know it, everyday.
