I went to an autocross in Lexington today. The FP car I'm codriving this year developed a ticking in the top end after one run and the car owner decided to park it. Kyallroad didn't bat an eye and tossed me the keys to his Miata so I could finish my runs and enjoy the day.
Good folks like him is what makes GRM and autocross great places to be!
Of course then the jerk proceeds to "Spoolpigeon" me and beat me in my own car.
By a whole 0.009 seconds!
It was a pretty amazing day all around. 96 drivers, and spool and I finished 6th and 7th. I'll take it

Huge thanks again to Jeremy for saving the day!
That FP car is stoooopid! So many FTDs in it's future if it stays together.

WTF is up with the course at 0:28? Seems very confusing.
That's a very short course. Hope you got a lot of runs.
96 drivers, three heats, six runs each. It was a fairly short course even by our standards but it's a small site.
I think the thing at :28 was the exit from the left handed 180 turn, into Chicago box, exit into a left handed showcase turn.
In reply to ProDarwin:
It's where the course crosses over itself. It does look a little weird in the video, but was very clear and easy to see in person. It's a postage stamp sized lot so they have to get pretty creative on course design.
Any idea what the noise is?
We have a great crew here. Thanks.

The initial thought was maybe valve lash since it's a shim under bucket style and Shawn didn't put the head together himself. He checked it when he got home and only a few were out of spec, and only by a couple thousandths. So he popped the cams out and one of the journals has some scarring in it, which makes us think there's an oiling issue. Maybe clogged oil ports from all the machine work done to it. I'm driving to Indy Wednesday after work to pick up a spare head from Swank Force One while Shawn starts the tear down of the motor. It's going to be a scramble to diagnose the problem and get it back together before the Blytheville Pro.

Of course Ben has a spare head. Pretty sure only one of his miatas even has a miata motor in it.

I've been away from the forum for a few days (trip to Palm Springs, CA and was offline by choice most of the time). I just read this thread and it's great!
