Ridgewood Barbecue 900 Elizabethtown Highway, Bluff City, TN
Voted the best BBQ east of the Mississippi multiple times, and unlike most BBQ places in the middle of nowhere this one has been there for almost 50 years.
Ontario, Canada
Easterbrooks in Burlington. It opened in 1930 and I'm not sure it's changed much since. The best footlongs you can find.
Burger barn on Six nations reserve. Huge everything, and it's all top notch, including the smokehouse poutine (according to my wife)
Kankakee Illinois - Janekies
Kankakee Illinois - Boz(o) hot dogs
Manteno Illinois - no name Mexican joint on hwy52. Holy crap, good food.
bludroptop wrote: Hwy 168, Barco NC (the main road to Nags Head) Frog Island Seafood - this is primarily a fish market, with a take-out counter and some naugahyde booths. Get the fried flounder sandwich or the shrimp po-boy - thank me later.
Agreed.
Also in NC-
HWY 301, Wilson, Parker's BarBQ. Been around for 50-60 years. Really good Eastern NC style BarBQ & fried chicken.

This is awesome!
Cedar Lake, IN
Sandbar Grill - It's right in the lake. They have really good food. Mainly burgers and sandwiches, but they started serving breakfast recently and we've heard that its pretty good.
Pier 74 - Across the street from The Sandbar. Probably some of the best pizza in the Chicago South Suburbs. They have other food, which I heard is good, but I've always had pizza when I've gone there. They also have a rotating craft beer menu from local breweries.
Dairy Queen - Yes Dairy Queen. Right on the lake next door to The Sandbar, I'm only saying this because its an old school, walk up, Dairy Queen. You can get a Mr. Misty float and then sit on the break wall and watch the sun go down over the lake.
Tastee Top - Another Ice Cream place. Great Ice Cream with a huge selection.
Harry-O's - Best pancakes I've ever had. Period. Other food is good there too.
La Gaviota - It's the only Mexican grocery store around. They sell pre marinated meat out of their meat case. (They butcher their own meat) which makes tacos at home just as good as restaurant tacos. They make their own tamales, guacamole, and pico de gallo. You can also order out from there too, but we enjoy making our own stuff out of the stuff we get there.
Beecher, IL
Buddy's Drive-In - Right in my home town. Another old school walk-up. It's a good ice cream place. I like their burgers. Remind me of old-school diner burgers. Their soft serve hasn't changed in over 20 years. They also have a car show the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.
Portland, OR My Father's Place - Best breakfast I have ever had. Fresh squeezed OJ, over-hard eggs, bacon that was TO DIE FOR (and I'm not a bacon fan) and delectable hash browns. All for something stupid cheap like $9 w/tip. Never tasted something so good based around the basics.
The Dalles, OR http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Restaurant_Review-g52093-d1105712-Reviews-Petite_Provence-The_Dalles_Oregon.html
I don't even know what to say about this place. Again, breakfast (possibly my favourite meal of the day). Again, fresh squeezed OJ. Croissant that melts in your mouth (mind blowing). Perfect overhard eggs. Shredded hashbrowns mixed with fried onions, bacon, and chicken breast. No greasiness, blew my mind. The chopped bacon was not as good as the Portland restaurant, but you will NOT be disappointed in breakfast at either of these places.
This place. Burke's Bakery, Danville KY. If you're ever in Central KY, stop in. Morning is best, and the gingerbread men are to die for. Flake Rolls are another recommended item. It's an old-style bakery. My wife hails from Danville, so I've been quite a few times.

Mild Wally's- I used to run the kitchen and helped develop the recipes. The chicken wings are quite good, and the pizza isn't bad, either.

Better than Lil' Porgy's? Never had either, just heard a lot about Lil' Porgy's and never heard of Black Dog. I'll have to try it soon.
Toledo, WA (about halfway between Portland, OR and Olympia, WA)
Mrs. Beesley's Burgers, 393 Cowlitz Ridge Rd Toledo, WA 98591, next to the Shell station. A really enjoyable burger, the good kind of bad burger. Several times it's been food time at this random spot on I-5, and Mrs. Beesley's came through.

Not even a comparison, Black Dog blows it out of the water. Black Dog is a smallish place and don't take reservations so always around meal times there is a wait, how long depends on how big your group is. Definitely worth it though

Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti, MI
Bonehead's BBQ (only thing IN Willis) - semi-reformed biker bar, now barbecue joint, it has the best BBQ within 20 miles of Ypsilanti
Sidetracks - makes a great burger
Akron/Youngstown, OH
Swensen's - great burgers.
Handel's - ice cream
New Orleans area, LA (there's too many to list 'em all)
Short Stop Po-Boys
Come Back Inn - Mufalettas (better than Central Grocery in my opinion), Po-boys, Louisiana cuisine
Mother's - Louisiana/soul food
Phil's Grill - burger made of ground filet mignon...
R & O's - seafood
Deanies - seafood
Middendorf's - in a swamp separating Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas, best seafood for miles around. Then again, it's probably the only restaurant for miles around.
