This might sound harsh, but your situation sounds like the type that Mitsubishis are built for. Walk into dealer, sign away your life, drive away in a soul sucking appliance. If you cannot buy an old car (which I would recommend), then this is your best option.
Mitsubishi- when your credit just won't do kia.
Heh... yeahhhhhh. Be nice.

I'll admit, the mirages look like freaking gumballs on the lot. They gave some wild colors.... I like that.
HiTempguy wrote:
I would say go for a micra before a mirage... Except you guys dont get the micra, forgot about that.
In this case, the answer is get a mitsu mirage for $10k 0% financing. Thats $166/month on only a 60 month loan, and I am pretty sure 0% extends to 72 and 84 months with mitsu.
Problem solved. And dude, no offense, but kid comes first... I dont get that vibe from you in this thread. You really cant afford to have ANY bike from the sounds of it. Of course, why you have a $8k bike when barely skating by financially is another bag o worms...
That wasn't the situation when I got the bike. Our household income has decreased tremendously in the last six months. I was laid off and her full time position got reduced to part time.
Both of our credit scores are in the 700's, hers is better than mine. That's not really an issue.
If I do decide to get a cage again FWD boring econo box is not happening.
She can still shuffle him around where he needs to be with her schedule. It's worked fine for almost eight years.
Good luck on the finance front. There myself, feel your pain.
I am with Wally on this one 5 year plan with no new purchases? Poppy cock!

I have been on a bike since I was 2 weeks old. Rode all over the eastern seaboard on the back of a CB750k with my Dad.
Don't you think your position is a bit harsh?

I actually think his position is quite reasonable.
I don't approve of the nanny-state/pussification of society. BUT, there is a reason kids are in car seats nowadays for a lot longer, because it saves their lives.
Also, I'd imagine accident rates are way higher with bikes than cars, and driving to work is one of the most dangerous activities a person does!
What you are saying is no different than "why do they need to wear seatbelts, I didn't and survived growing up" .

Actually, I'd be surprised if you weren't more likely to be involved in a car crash....I know plenty of people who ride kids on bikes, not that uncommon really.
Missing part of the picture here. She has a car? And payments? Maybe a combined approach is necessary. Sell motorcycle and her car. Buy two cheaper cars.

So, what you need is a pillion seat? Kids love motorcycles.
I hope this is another example of your sarcasm...? anyone who would take a child near a bike should be taken out and buried. Killing first optional.
That's the thing I've noticed with Canadian's. They spew their stupidity with just enough conviction to make you think they may actually believe it. It's kinda cute really.
Meanwhile, outside of North America:
Sadly I don't think you're going to be able to avoid selling the bike.
Trade the bike in on an appliance? Craigslist it while it's still in season?

I'm sure that's going to work well. I imagine she is suggesting you get a car so that you can share some of the burden shuffling him around. Her schedule is changing to one that is less accommodating, maybe you need to step in here and help out.
Discounting any FWD econo box just smells of poor decision making here. You are in a financial bind here. You aren't going to get out of it by standing your ground and whining about it on the internet. Almost anything but a FWD econobox is going to add financial complications to the already difficult task of extracting yourself and your family from these financial woes. Suck it up and deal with it.
This is why I mentioned the Visa convenience check. It's financing for private sales. The world is full of cheap cars that aren't neccesarily FWD souls sucking appliances but you don't have the cash on hand for ($2,000-$4,000).
Get rid of the bike, sorry your finances have shifted but that's the reality right now. Get something decent that you can live with for short money. Again less enthusiast is better if I remember your earlier post thread about keeping away from projects but really, you need cheap transportation that works with at least a kid in the car with you.
Perhaps a pickup or van and start doing some side work out of it? Turn your "appliance penalty" into something positive.
Edit: you feel the need to work on cars, use this opportunity to start a side gig doing mobile oil changes and brake jobs. Doesn't have to be a lot, just get the word out and do enough to pay the visa bill and make yourself feel ok about losing your bike.

Then man up and tell her that instead of arguing with us. Let us know how that goes.
You asked for advice, people gave you advice. You don't want a fwd econobox? Doesn't look like you really have a choice. You are the one in the jam, not us. Do you just want us to say "what a bitch, keep the bike"?
That better?
You're upside down on a bike, and have 0 extra money per month. You're not in the position to get what you want, it's not about you.
That's not it at all. Mainly just venting. Even though I knew what I would get, I still wanted to hear everyone's opinion. And, even though I may argue with you doesn't mean I don't appreciate the advice. I'll probably not listen to any of you anyway. I'll probably try to sell the bike and get a V-strom.
I will stand my ground on the no FWD box. It's not going to happen. I'm ok with a small truck or a full size van.

Seems like he suffers from not only being an shiny happy person (it takes one to know one, I will admit) but also from being selfish! (I can play this game too! :D ).
As for motorcycles, uh, yes, they are much more dangerous than cars on a per rider/driver basis. Just ask your insurance company.
Teach her to ride the bike ?

Hey, I have a Ranger and while not wonderful by any means it keeps the rain out and does what I need it to do.

I truly do understand that. But there are times in life where you have to place others before yourself, and this seems (to me) like that time.
I'm really not trying to get on your E36 M3 man, but you have a kid. Kid comes first IMO. If I had a kid and was having a rough financial time, the race car would be gone instantly. I understand its tough, I just recently bought a 1980 corolla because a boring DD was making me miserable. But I had to suffer the boring DD to get to the fun DD.

Impressive. Most newborns can't even hold their head up for several months.
(But I do agree that "kid on a bike" isn't bad, is actually pretty awesome)
