No. No it isn't.

It would be funny if they were old Jewish folks.

This certainly makes it look like the government of cook county supports the NRA. 3. The cook county assessor is Joseph Berrios. A long-time IL democratic lawmaker (his daughter is also a democratic lawmaker). The "join NRA" is inches from his face on the screen. 4. *Notice this is a ".com" site - maybe this "official government site" is actually profiting for Berrios' personal account. He's been accused of similar improper use of public control before.
So, what we have is a politician that is willing to sacrifice his principals for a buck. Still not news.

Or you know they are using a cheap ass host who is not curating the ad list.

Different banner ad networks work in different ways, but many ads you see are based on your browser history rather than the site you're visiting.

I see this all the time at work when I have to research health-related topics. Doesn't matter what site I'm on--I get ads for cancer centers half a country away.

In reply to Will:

It's also possible to use a programmic ad campaign where you are granularly targeting specific competitors websites or specific demographics.

I suspect it's a programmic type campaign. The NRA, despite what the comment sections everywhere would have you believe, does put some thought into certain things they do.

No. No it isn't.

A former coworker of mine opened a bar in Philly a while back. He would have been thrilled if all he had to do was make some ham dinners.

It took him months and months to get all licenses and permits sorted out. I asked him who he forget to pay, he said "I don't know, I've paid a bunch of them twice already"

BTW, that's super shady that that the county is doing business on a .com site instead of .gov, I wonder who's skimming it.

Agree 100%. http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/ is the official website of the IL secretary of state too. So it's not just the county, the whole state condones it.
