The top 1%

The 'top 1%' usually refers to wealth and/or income.  What skill, ability, statistic, etc. puts you in the (estimated) top 1% of the population?

For example, I'd wager that most people capable of decent performance at a regional autox (or some of the larger local events) are probably in the top 1% of the population as far as autox skill.

I'm going to say:

Pullups

Muscleups

Quake/Quake3/Competitive FPS games

Autocross

Possibly weightlifting (as percentages of bodyweight)

For me, I am in the top 1% of people who can spot a tire that is low on pressure.

Picking the slowest line in the bank, grocery store or toll booth.  I'm probably in the top .000001%

At one point I played in an amateur pool league. I ended up being ranked in the top 1% but that required so much practice I gave it up when Lil Stampie came along. 

I’m good at selling S/S braided metal hose assemblies.  

I used to think about this a lot as a kid snowboarding. I figured back then I was a top 1% snowboarder.

However, it IS a bit of a sham, as almost anything you do puts you in the top 1% simply by choosing to do it.

7 bil people means 70 million is top 1%. Are there even 70 million snowboarders? Doubtful. Autoxers?definitely not. 70 million fisherpeople? Maybe. 70 million bass fisherpeople? Nope.

Now there is some natural talent involved at the bottom end. For example, take the 99% who have never autoxed before and enter them in a giant scca event. Some of them will have ridiculous natural talent and will beat the rookies with one or two days autox experience. A handful will be Sennas who don't even know  it and will kick almost everyone's behind. But those folks are not a big enough number to even make a dent. So say 100 Sennas and 1000 or even 10,000 pretty talented drivers. There's still not 70 million autoxers in the world.

So, by default, most of what you do automatically makes you a 1 percenter at that activity.

Probably Harry Potter trivia and knowledge of the book lonesome Dove.

Probably hockey, in general. I ref, play, and have bunch of random knowledge about it. I referee a relatively high level of it too. 

And unfortunately (but fortunately considering the situation) in the past two days I’ve probably become a 1%er on NICU ECMO.

Like who is in the top 1% in blinking speed? Top 1% lifetime fingernail growth? Number of white blood cells?

Proveable items, from my time in the military I'm certainly in the top 1% of marksmen as well as a top 1% medic. 

Given my autocross results I'd guess top 0.000001 compared with the general population but more like top 5% of actual autocrossers.  So do I average that one?

Maybe some things that don't get posted in a family friendly forum.

According to actual tests I do have a top 1% IQ but it's balanced by a bottom 5% memory so not really an advantage except to have full self awareness of my shortcoming.

If it makes people feel better, I bet most people here on the forum are actually financial/wealth 1%ers if you take a global view.  Income to be in the global 1% is only $32,500 or $770K net worth.
