I'm going to have to start digging on some details, because there was a box in the backseat of the '68 of 13 trophies plus the World of Wheels trophy that was laying on top.

All of them were from the 70's and some of them were missing tags, but there were 6 first place trophies.

I hear plenty of the "When we were (possibly drunk) being stupid" stories, but I've never heard his racing stories.

I heard many of those myself though many of them coincided with his racing and general hooliganism. Heck I was named after his buddy that he got arrested with when he was 16...Can you guess what the arrest was for?

Lordy yes, get those stories. You'll thank yourself!

My dad raced very intermittently and as a rank amateur, but his hunting and fishing stories were epic. Like the time he and a buddy went to pick up a brand new boat then managed to set it on fire towing it through the swamps near here.

My Father used to race his Opel locally at the now gone Atlantic City Speedway. He did very well in a car we now know was quite illegal (it was a 1968 Opel Kadett Rallye Homogulation special he bought in Europe and shipped over when his tour in Spain was up). Sadly having his hips replaced at age 25 put paid to that (Along with a lot of other things)

Go get your Father's stories and then tell them to us. I am sure they are worthy

I loved my Dad's stories about when he raced an old Formula Junior. A Satler(?) that used the drive train from a bug-eyed Sprite.

Get all the stories you can. Dad's rock, I miss mine.

He told a fun story about flipping his '63 spitfire. It landed on him and bounced back off. All he suffered was a cut finger and broken glasses. Apparently the sand on the roadside was so soft his body pressed into that instead of getting crushed.

I hope you get those stories. My dad left when I was six years old... and mentioning his name in our household was never a wise idea. After he died, I became the recipient of his war medals and plaques. Too bad he's not around to talk to about them anymore, because enlisting the help of WWII RAF fans yielded some pretty interesting stuff:

Lesley's right, find out while you can. My dad's buddies are all gone too so I have nowhere else to try to learn more about him.

The weirdest thing? This sounds like bragging, but really it's not - it was the oddest chance encounter. Was chatting at an auto show a couple of years ago with an industry professional whom I know very well - he asked me if I'd had a chance to interview Wayne Burgess, Jaguar designer. Unfortunately, his schedule was tight, and I missed out.

He mentioned what a great guy Burgess is, and a huge Battle of Britain fan. "Oh", I said, "my dad was in the Battle of Britain". This fellow, who happens to be on the board of directors for the Canadian War Plane museum said "What? You serious?"

He proceeded to call Burgess, who came down immediately. We only had time for a brief chat, but they asked me if I could ride in the car to the airport with them the next day. I did, bringing medals and plaques. I learned more about the RAF and my dad's squadrons in that two hour car ride, than 30 years of digging had turned up.

Plus... I got my interview.

My dad was a life long mid pack racer who was perpetually drunk, and notoriously unprepared. He was really young when I was born, and we did a lot together so I got to hear a lot of crazy stories, and even participate in some. If there are things my dad didn't talk about, I don't want to know what they are
