If you use plenty of washing up liquid with the hot water it helps to remove the old oil, and if there are stubburn oil deposits you need to stop with the water and soak in petrol, even to the extent you block the draing holes for the petrol and allow the petrol to sit in the galleries and break down stuck on deposits for a while, if deposits are still there rinse and repeat. If you use petrol be sure to rinse out the block with more washing up liquid and hot water as if will break down you new oil(the main reason you change your oil every 5000 miles or so). hope this helps. ps if you are helping a mate do this after he drives a pug 205 into 4 feet of water, dont let the neigbours see you as they will think the worst.
