i was lucky enough to find 2 car enthusiasts at my university. one had a bunch of old BMW motorcycles and a 2002 (he got with a student loan haha) that i think he sold, and another who has a fairly old saab turbo. i just wish i knew who owned the 240rs i saw a couple years back, though that was 40% rust hole. made me sad, but the owner probobly didn't know about the rally heritage thing... and to be honest, most cars that old in wisconsin are 5% or more rust unless really cared for.
but i see what you're all saying, i don't even call myself a car guy, i say car geek or car nerd, to imply i'm not into cars just so i can feel cool. that way people aren't surprized when i say its soo good that my van has a functioning oil pressure gauge, or why i keep extra oil in the back of my van. and if they do by some miracle understand that whole checking oil thingy on an old worn our engine, they ask why i don't buy a new car. well, duh, this old van still runs great and oil is WAY cheaper than a new car. so would new piston rings, too, only that would be more fun because then i'd be able grind the bump out of the exhaust ports and install a mass air flow conversion, or perhaps get the stuff out of one of the hundreds of junk 5.0 stangs around here, and... then i usually lose people.
here's what i mean with the exhaust port. sorry for off topic, but really? ford thought that was a good idea? maybe thats why the 302 was only rated at 185 hp. someone said it was emissions related, but wow thats almost intentionally killing power. the exhaust system all looks this restrictive too. well, the small bit that hasn't been replaced yet.
I am lucky. My engineering student friends love anything weird and automotive. Hopefully over the summer we will be building that mid-engined El Camino.
That is all kinds of win.
Maybe not in an Integra, but my Sherman tank has the heart of a B-17 (Wright Cyclone).
^ WTF?!? How did you end up with a Sherman tank?
My post needs a asterisk. I did it tongue in cheek. I don't have an M-4.
yea.. I met a few people who seemed to get interested when it came up in conversation that I was either driving my bmw or saab... then they made the mistake of asking about them and discovered that the newest of the two is 14 years old

If you did own a Sherman, I bet it would be less than a week before some kid would walk up to it and say My buddy has one of those, but his is cooler. Totally JDM, Yo!!! Right-hand drive and everything!!! Better suspension, too... Furr-Eel!!!

People always think we're rich because Dad drives a BMW, and I drive a BMW convertible! Nevermind the fact that they are 15 and 20 years old.
Or that we have 5 vehicles... but if you add up the value, you'd be at about 35-40K. If you're liberal with all the prices.
Try explaining how you only have a motorcycle. A dirt bike (more or less) at that. And is only a 250cc. Bonus points if its snowing. Fashion riders and squids are almost worse than the general public.
I've stopped talking to people I don't know about cars, bikes, and just about any form of transportation and pretty much won't give car buying advice anymore. The apartments I live in are glorified spoiled college kid housing, to say the least I get stares working on the bike myself.

I don't give car advise either. I told someone they were buying a car that should last them a while (Hyundai Accent) and they blew the motor at 60k miles because they had not opened the hood since they bought it. Why would it run out of oil at 60k when the warrentee says its good for 100.
You people who think you get funny looks now should try telling people you don't bring a car to work. I get a bus /subway pass from work and the train to the city is cheaper than driving and parking so I never have my personal car. My supers seem to think every time I need to go somewhere on company time I should use my car, and that by taking puiblic trans. i'm stealing time.

When I drive the Miata I get told that it is small and therefore gay. I just remind myself that when I roll out of school at the end of the day every other girl I see waves at me, then the next day tells me they like my car.
It's because it's a GIRL'S CAR.

I feel your pain.
I was driving this when I was 40. One of the girls at work said it (the colour) reminded her of a Barbie car. That's what it became known as.
When they found out it was a 3 cylinder, and a Firefly, the gay jokes got even worse.

That's more than a little ironic.

To which I would reply, "Didn't need to, I upgraded to HVSS from the junkyard."

ROFL! My dad was commander of an "Easy Eight" in Korea. He envied the units with Pershings (M26?) until he heard that they couldn't climb a hill..
