After seeing it in slow motion he definitely had a hold of the wing. It's hard to say if he grabbed it prior to being hit or after in an attempt to not get ran over though.

To win a Sprint car race requires more than just luck opportunity and preparation. It is not a "gentleman's" sport, there is no etiquette, no "kid gloves". It is a battle of wits, force of will and nerve, bluffing, feinting, and elbowing are normal (To the point of actually driving over a competitors machine). Whatever you can get away with, no holds barred, take no prisoners, winning is everything at any cost. That is why it's called "sprint" racing, balls to the wall, hammer down, get out of my way if you're slower, wheel to wheel racing. Even if you're not slower, if I can get beside you or near you and make you pucker I win. It's a game of Chicken! Why in dog's name would someone think it's OK to play chicken without a car. Only a race car driver hopped up on a fractured ego!

I have seen more than one driver run his car into the wall (because he didn't lift) and blame another driver. It happens all the time.

I don't see how the slo-mo version makes anything "definitive."

It's still grainy and dark.

Here is the video in slo-mo w/ Ward pointed out by the arrow appearing to have grabbed the wing or cage, at least he still appeared upright at that point. Never noticed that before. It's on a SHR fan site, btw.

I think you've turned the horse into mush at this point.

Dude, in slo mo, it's OBVIOUS, he lunged at a moving race car, on a hot race track, in a dark suit, at night. No rule is going to fix that.

Because I definitely see his arms up holding onto the wing.

looks like he leapt at the car and tried to hold on in an effort to get him to stop, so then he could have a "discussion".

I had read speculation elsewhere that getting TS to stop his car would have put him out of the race as well, since sprint cars are direct drive and lack a starter.

if you're right, that's even worse.

So now, we have a driver in a black suit at night lunging at a moving race car on a hot track... to try and stop it with his hands!?

I do think a Darwin award is well deserved if that is the case. Trying to stop a 700hp, winged Sprint car at night, wearing black on a dimly lit track, during a race with your hands. Yep.... Darwin won this round.

If that's true.

They can restart with help of a push truck, not a race ender.

I can't see if he grabbed onto the wing. It looks like he was hit by the right-rear tire, got stuck to it and got whipped around a few times before he was thrown off.

At the back of the pack. So there is a big incentive to keep the car moving.

We should put up a very stern warning sign against this...

If only he had read the John Deere Riding tractor Manual first...

Or he was trying to climb into the car to start beating Stewart's ass as he was driving. Either way, not smart.

Trying to give Ward the benefit of the doubt, I could maybe see him grabbing the wing at the last second as he realized the rear wheel was going to hit him because he was too close. Last-ditch effort to save himself and all that.

Either way, the more time goes on, the more I'm sure this was all on Ward, and none of it on Stewart.

Don't know anything about it but wonder if the video could be enhanced by a pro or forensics.

Not really. The stuff shown on CSI is mostly fantasy. There are a few minor "enhancements" you can do in real life but nothing CSI-esque. The closest thing IRL to CSI's magic are algorithms that can increase the resolution of an image when given information on what they are. I saw an impressive demo of such an algorithm used on human faces.

I think the more appropriate saying would be "Ow my balls!", in order to convey the stupidity of not only this situation, that John Deere sticker, but the human race as a whole. (It's a movie quote)

Yet there are still people saying a rule needs to be put in place.... How's their horse doing?

Also quite mushy.
