Well I'm sitting here planning things out for the Olds and I'm kinda torn on what to do as far as transmission choices.

Right now the car has I believe a TH350 on the Pontiac 301 that is getting yanked. I have a Chevy 350 bored 30 over (355) that I will be picking up this week and can get a Saginaw 4 spd at the same time for $150 more. I was hoping to pick up a Muncie 4spd or possibly a later 5 or 6 speed to put in.

Right now I am mostly concerned with getting the car on the road and kind of into a stage 1 of the build up. I would also like to have something to run at autocrosses and the like but I suppose that isn't the most important thing at this point.

So I'm kinda wondering if at this point should I get the Sag, rebuild it and setup for that. Or should I take the money I would spend on the Sag and rebuild the TH350 and put in a shift kit?

I love the idea of a 300-400hp manual trans G body though I think I would like to start off with a later Monte or Regal though.

So keep the auto in the Olds and go with a shift kit or go with the Sag? Both would need to be adapted for the 350 and other things would have to be done for both.

Well, while I know most of us here would prefer a real manual, I know there's at least a few national-level CSP cars with manual valve-body automatics. Not sure if that makes your decision easier or harder though...

the th350 (that was on the back of the 301) will not bolt up to the 355 chevy your th350 has the bop bellhousing pattern (buick,olds,pontiac)

Not necessarily true. A lot of TH350s had a dual bolt pattern. Just sayin'.

Yeah I would have to hope for one of the dual bolt patterns to be in there if I kept the auto. The other benefit of course is the fact I could still drive when my knee is acting up. Busted up my left knee pretty bad a few years back.

I dont think the saginaw transmissions are very strong. I think you would want either a muncie or a t10. Otherwise, id say keep the automatic.
