We got them both yesterday, 80 power poles destroyed, no power until next Tuesday.... at least.

The Compound survived the near direct hit without damage.

That sucks. We were without power for a week in '08. You don't realize how much you depend on electricity until it isn't there.

Living in southern OH and then in TN spring time tornadoes were a real thing that happened frequently in close proximity almost every year. I was on I-275 getting my windshield pounded in with hail when one tore up Blue Ash less than a mile from where I was. And had several close calls while in TN. When I moved to TX I had a preconceived notion that the severe weather would be much worse than what I was used to. That is not the reality. I'd say we have less than half the severe storms here than we did back east and they are less severe and blow through much quicker.

Glad the compound didn't sustain damage.

I drove through one once, not knowing until afterwards. Not fun, everyone was on the road sides with flashers or huddled in the gas station, and here i was following the road lines in the blinding rain in my dually, oblivious to the fact that E36 M3 was flying around me

I attempted to drive through one in my Corrado. I couldn't even see the lines on the road, so I turned around and went back to our office, but almost got blown away attempting to get in the door. Fortunately a couple coworkers were watching out the window, grabbed the door & me, and pulled me in. A business at the other end of our building a couple hundred yards down had a 20' tall rollup door blown in by the storm.

That Time I Entered a 24 Hours of LeMons (Team Trackaddicts/Flat Rock, MI, the year of the heavy rains), after our car broke during the first few laps when we were basically parading around a flooded track, most of my team went home. I stayed behind the full 24 hours to spectate the racing on course and in the pits because I paid money to be there dangit.

One of my friends said that on his way home, he saw at least one 18-wheeler get pushed over by winds high enough to get one side completely off the ground

The winds on my way home weren't THAT bad but noticeable enough that I thought I had a tire going flat until I noticed that my car stopped pulling every time I went under a bridge.

Once riding across I90 on my bike, I stopped and gassed up. The sky ahead was black. I said WTF and headed straight into it. At times, I could see maybe 15-20 ft in front of me and then I got hit by a straight line wind so hard it pushed me into the next lane over. I had ridden about 700 miles that day by then. I made it through the storm and said, that's it, and tried to find a motel.

Here in AR a few years ago, we had a bad straight line wind. We lost maybe 20 trees, all pushed down in the same direction. When it hit, early in the morning, Dr.L was running down the stairs, cat close behind. I looked out the window and a 60 year old oak tree was bent in half at the middle. I ran down behind the cat.

A few years back my brother lived in Manhatten (Kansas!) and missed the alarms because he was excercising with ear buds in. The next morning he went outside to find the hardware store 100 yards down the road was just gone.

Tornadoes are Mother Natures sniper rifle. If you get targeted, you're just gone.

There's another Ohio City in Ohio besides a dumpy neighborhood in Cleveland? (I'm assuming you didn't mean that place... the only thing it's 25 miles south of is open water)
