My daughter broke one of those Top Down Bottom up blinds in her bedroom. I bought the stuff to restring it online.. Watched the videos.. Dissassembled the blind and started to do the work and then realized.. I don't want to do this.. Threw in towel. Three jacksons will fix at blind store.

I'll save the string and parts for next time.

Hahaha. I just tried this with my son's window shade about 3 months ago. I ended up throwing a mini hissy fit and tossing it in the trash. They really are not that expensive to buy.

How do you make a Venetian blind?

Poke his eyes out!

I've seen too much internet. "Top Down Bottoms Up" sounds like a video you should not want your children making.

I'm at the point where I have to ask what it would cost to have someone else do it, and the acceptable number gets higher every day.

I figure that if it will be very cheap (i.e. oil change) or very tedious (i.e. moving), I'll pay someone else to do it for me.

Or, as my brother said about my dad, "He is getting really good at using his wallet to make problems go away".

I wish my wallet was that big.

It sounds like a summer road trip... but I have safe search turned on.

I have never seen a Venetian blind that wasn't exorbitantly priced or a total piece of E36 M3. There is no middle ground.

Well, Dad is 64, drove used cars basically his whole life (at last count there have been 4 cars purchased new in his lifetime, the last one coincided with the birth of his first son in 1987), and still does a lot of things himself that other people would outsource, like changing the oil on his lawnmower. Oh, and if it can reasonably be bought used, it is usually bought used (Stereo, tools, guitars, cars, kitchenware, etc.)

But then there are the things that 10 years ago he would have done himself (or had us do for him). Now you will never see him install a stove by himself. $10 extra to have the delivery guy do it? Works for him. Pizza can get delivered to you? Who cares about the delivery fee and tip, send it over!

Yep, the older I get, the more valuable my time becomes. I used to do all my own maintenance on all of my vehicles. Now I only do it on the Mustang.

Example: The dealer charges about $10 more than my cost of oil and filter to do an oil change, tire rotation, and multi-point inspection on my Fusion, in less time than it takes me to move the cars around to fit it in the garage and put it up on jack stands, all while I sit comfortably reading a book and sipping coffee.

I will gladly pay that $10 in exchange for a slightly smaller ego at no longer being someone who "does all my own work on my own vehicles."

Oh, one other thing to consider--I referee hockey on the side. A typical game is about 3 hours of investment--10-30 minutes of travel, getting there 30 minutes early, 60-120 minutes for the game, 10 to undress, 10-30 minutes home. Often times I can ref 2-4 in a row, and usually the least I'll get paid is $35, average is probably about $48 a game. If it will take me longer than 3 hours (and I just made a wiper motor swap take 3 hours this weekend) then it makes sense for me to farm it out.
