My wife's current DD is a 2022 Hilander Hybrid and the pedestrian warning system sounds like the Jetson's spaceship. In fact, most of our neighbors call it her spaceship when you hear it coming down the road.
Is it possible to modify the sound (Yes, I know removing is illegal). But I think it would be funny to make it sound like a flat plane v8 or something entirely worse
Our new Accord Hybrid has a similar system.
I hate it. It's ruining the hybrid experience for me. It would be so nice to move along silently at low speeds.
Sorry to derail but isn't tire noise louder than most new ICE exhaust? Why would it be illegal to remove the pedestrian warning sound?
As far as modifying, it should be as "easy" as finding the code in the car's software and switching the pertinent file to SymphonyofDestruction.mp3
Tire and wind noise above a certain speed should produce enough noise to alert people that a car is coming. Below, say, 10-15 mph, especially with the high-efficiency tires on most EVs, they can be virtually silent. This is why all the space-agey noises they all make at low speed. Those noises are ultimately produced by speakers, so it should be possible to remove the speakers and use the incoming signal as an activation signal for any noise maker of your choice. A La Cucuracha air horn is one possibility.
I would definitely counsel against removing the sound emitters entirely, even if they are not legally mandated by your state's highway code. They do not "detract from the hybrid experience" nearly as much as running over someone's cat (or inattentive kid) would.
Call mark rober for this one trust me bro

Star Wars "Imperial March" Vader Theme
I had that as my wife's ringtone for quite a while.
Where's the speaker? Wonder if you could piggyback on the signal to it. Like, if it's controlled by the BCM something that listens to the CAN network and plays it's own soundtrack. Likely wouldn't disable the jetsons noises but if it's drowned out by the sound of a 60s era cammed big block who cares?
If one were so inclined as to disable them completely, the best way to avoid any accusations of tampering with the sound emitter would be to destroy it but leave it connected.

Honestly, I think Toyota has a thing about their cars making noise. I can't even brush up against my wife's V6 Camry if I need something out of the garage without it emitting a high-pitched squeal that must go on for at least a minute. I don't even need to bump the car. I don't think it's the car alarm, per se, because it isn't even locked. More of a "Don't touch me!" kind of thing. Like I don't get enough of that already. LOL.

Heh, didn't the Celica GTS have a beep noise for going in reverse? I remember the Car and Driver review mentioning it and knocking the Celica for having that lol
