I like Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I like Guy Fieri. But my problem with the show is not Guy and that's not the point of my thread, so I don't care if you like him or not.
My problem is that it's blatantly obvious that the show has changed since it started. It's gone from just finding all these "off the beaten path" places, holes-in-the-wall, old-school diners, and drive-ins, to places that make semi-gourmet food. I haven't seen a drive-in in a while now.
I don't know why it's annoying me, but it is.
I used to dig DDD, but yeah, it doesn't seem to be as good as it used to. I couldn't quite determine why, but I think you're on to something, with Guy going to more high falutin' places, instead of holes-in-the-wall, old-school diners, and drive-ins.
I went to a diner once in Cheyenne, WY, for breakfast. It was a real diner, as in a diner car from a rail road, stuck on the side of the main drag with some additions added on. Hungry Homer's, or Hungry Hobo, something like that. Real hashbrowns the size of a large plate, etc., for next to nothing. It was great. Years later, we looked for it again and it was gone or the name/owner changed.
Oh he still has 'em, but he's going to a lot of places that customers recommend to him so it's changed a little. The choice is also affected by which shows get the best ratings.
I don't think a food truck in Hawaii can be classified as a high falutin' place.
I don't have a problem with the mix - yet.
It's my favorite show followed by Trip Flip followed by Top Gear.
I was thinking I was going to see pics that belonged in the GGA thread. Imagine my disappointment!

scattered, smothered and covered. Any questions?
Can I get two eggs over easy with my hash browns?

We used to go to a nice little diner called Sally's before work on Saturdays. Sally was a nice little Chinese woman who served good food. One day, she closed the doors and went back to China.
We had to find a new place and we discovered Bart's American Restaurant. Bart was a former Navy cook. I'm fairly certain that he must have needed a snow shovel to flip the omelets. I used to say that he should change the name of the place to Bart's American Restaurant, God Damn It.
I have one great dive bar/restaurant and one real, old time traditional stainless/glass diner featuring the same 3 waitresses for the last decade (probably longer) within 2 miles of me. They have great food but don't do "over the top" dishes made for gluttons so no TV coverage is forthcoming. That is good for me - the diner only has 12 stools and I always manage to get 3 in a row for malts with the kids after the dinner rush.
Pinchvalve's gonna be disappointed when he sees this thread
I've been to three separate restaurants that I learned about from casual channel surfing that found me watching Mr. Fieri's television show.
All three sucked. Really.
Perhaps they should re-name the show "Diners, Drive-ins and Don't Berkeleying Eat Here!".

I've eaten at one of his featured places,Grandpa's in Dania FL. Meh. My favorite dive bar truly is a dive, but it is waterfront on a boat infested canal. Does not seem to attract many tourists, a real bonus here. Food is basic bar grub, but done well enough. I like the ambiance, staff, and the owner. Been going there for 18 years, so I guess that says something. Southport Raw Bar, Ft. Lauderdale. When I have customers come in from the Islands, I always take them there, goes over pretty well.
I've only eaten at one DDD featured place that wasn't good, and it was really bad. As a matter of fact I have the app for my phone and am using it as a good guide for my trip west this year.
Afterwards when I found the show that featured the bad restaurant I found it only did a short clip about one menu item, and I didn't get that item.

I've been to one that I'm aware of, before and after it got on the show. It was a dive before the show, and it was great. It is not a dive anymore, and while the food is the same, the prices have gone up and it isn't worht it anymore.

Do you know how far I would drive to eat at "Bart's American Restaurant, God Damn It" ? Hundreds of miles, each way. really.

I read an article a while back about Guy and that show, he's kind of a douche. A buddy of mine wants to go to this place that was featured on his show that does carribean food, and I went to read the online reviews and they were total E36 M3.
I often wonder if he is contractually obligated to keep his "look", I mean it has been quite a while since his genX extreme hairstyle was acceptable.

I'd say at least 2 decades now
But then it makes him unique and memorable, "Hey it's that middle-aged guy with a punk kid's haircut again"

You would have to drive to New Britain, Connecticut. If you do, please bring me something from Atlanta Craigslist.
Back when the show was in its hay-day, I was also traveling a lot. I have been to a number of the featured places and liked them all.
The Parkview Night Club on Cleveland's West side is a good example of a place I would have never found w/o the show...BBQ pork tacos...Salmon smoked out back and served like a BLT, etc.
Favorite: Schooner or Later in Long Beach, CA; right on the waterfont, in the marina on Allamitas Bay.
I have not watched the show in years. Do they still make new episodes?

I swear the next time I hear him describe something as "so money" I am gonna stab my television. "off the hook" is bad enough but "money" really bothers me.
In reply to ditchdigger:
I will take it that you are not a big fan of Trent Walker or his friend, Mike Peters who was in fact; money.
So money and he did not even know it.
I also hold him responsible for the scourge of these

With claws and big fangs but did not know how to kill the bunny.
Back to the food, I will have the pancakes in The Age of Enlightenment.
